Position Summary

HIGHLIGHTS

Counseling Services Trainees are master’s or doctoral students from partnering mental health preparation programs. Trainees are completing their clinical internships within SUNY Geneseo’s counseling center, working part-time providing clinical services and consultation to the SUNY Geneseo students. Trainees are members of the Counseling Services Training Program and complete 10-20 hours per week across 2 academic semesters. Trainees facilitate individual and group counseling and are supervised by licensed staff.

There are two types of Trainee opportunities available:

  • 10 hours per week paying $4213 across an academic year

  • 20 hours per week paying $8427 across an academic year

    Required Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a CACREP -accredited master’s or doctoral-level program in mental health counseling, counseling, or counselor education.

  • Students enrolled in Master’s programs must have their practicum experiences completed prior to the start date of their internship.

  • Demonstrated desire to work with and be inclusive toward diverse students, faculty, and staff

  • Applicants interested in the 10 hours per week position must be able to be onsite 1 day per week for the Fall and Spring semester.

  • Applicants interested in the 20 hours per week position must be able to be onsite 3 days per week .

  • Applicants for both 10 and 20 hours per week positions must also be available to attend weekly case conferences and Training Program seminars in person or remotely.

    Preferred Qualifications

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience providing clinical services in higher education

  • Practicum experience within SUNY Geneseo’s Training Program

  • Experience with clinical documentation, diagnosis and treatment planning

    License/Certification

Must be enrolled in a CACREP -Accredited Master’s or Doctoral program.

Other Skills Required

Supervision Received

All Counseling Services Trainees receive individual and group clinical supervision from licensed practitioners within the Counseling Services team.

  • Maintain an ongoing client caseload of approximately 30 clients.

  • Provide support in crisis management and triage sessions.

  • Provide initial mental health assessments.

  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions

    Percentage Of Time 20%

  • Keep accurate and current records of all activities, including clinical records

  • Engage in assigned case management tasks for ensuring comprehensive and cohesive client care

    Percentage Of Time 15%

  • Attend weekly clinical supervision.

  • Engage in weekly case conferences and present cases as assigned.

  • Attend all departmental trainings and staff meetings.
