About you and this role

Do you have experience in operating, monitoring, and maintaining process equipment? If so, you might be the right person to join our team at the Dow's Geelong manufacturing site.

As a production operator, you will be responsible for safely operating, monitoring, maintaining, and improving the Geelong plant in order to maximize the reliability and efficiency of the operation while ensuring quality product. You will work as part of a 4-person shift team, covering 12-hour day/night shifts, 7 days a week on a 5-week rotating roster, with public holidays off.

What you’ll do:

  • Follows Operating Discipline principles, procedures, and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.

  • Operates and controls process equipment. Monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systems following standard operating procedures.

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations including field checks, safety inspections, sampling, equipment preparation for maintenance, laboratory testing, housekeeping etc.

  • Uses troubleshooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems.

  • Uses process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance and Operating Discipline.

  • Performs process equipment troubleshooting, including defined preventative maintenance and minor maintenance. Responds to unplanned events and performs immediate response activities.

  • Participates on empowered continuous improvement teams focused on safety, environment, quality, or other plant performance measures.

  • Participates in all relevant site and plant training programs. Coaches and train others on plant operators.

  • Uses communication tools to communicate safety and process problems/concerns.

What you’ll have:

  • Trade qualification (instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical) or tertiary qualification (science or engineering) are highly regarded but not essential.

  • Experience in process or manufacturing environment or performing high hazard work advantageous but not essential.

  • Highly safety orientated, with an ability to identify and communicate hazards related to operational activities.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work within different work groups

  • Must have sound computer skills as well as Microsoft office experience.

  • The plant is semi-automated with a computer control system. Relevant experience with distributed control systems (DCS) and/or computing programming is highly regarded.

  • Willing to work in rotating shift work environment (7 days a week)
