County of Gaston Community Social Services Assistant in Gastonia, North Carolina

Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Provide delivery of hot meals to homebound older adults on a Dallas/Stanley meal route and meet volunteers in Dallas according to written directions supplied by the Departments Nutrition Staff.
  • Operate nutrition meal sites throughout Gaston County including receiving food from caterer and preparing and serving it to participants, providing daily programs and activities to older adults, maintain clean and safe nutrition sites by following necessary sanitation practices and safety regulations, complete and maintain daily records in good order and deliver home delivered meals.
  • Provide delivery of frozen meals throughout the County to homebound older adults according to written directions supplied by the Departments Nutrition Staff.
  • Ensure all applicable safety precautions are taken during vehicle operation. Strict adherence to food safety standards when packing, transporting and delivering meals. Other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure all interactions with clients and staff are courteous and professional at all times.?Observe adults and families in their homes and environments and verbally reports any concerns to the social worker for consideration.
  • Communicates effectively with volunteers, participants, and program staff; maintains confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Experience:1 year of experience working with disabled and/or older adults.
  • Certification:Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
  • Licensing:Valid North Carolina driver's license required.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of the social, economic, and environmental conditions affecting clients.
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize community resources.
  • Proficiency in basic reading, writing, and simple mathematics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish rapport with clients, family members, caregivers, and professionals from various disciplines.
  • Ability to assist individuals with limited functioning in activities of daily living (ADLs), such as ambulation, meal tray setup, or transfers.
  • Competency in preparing and maintaining simple reports of activities.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and relevant software for daily reports, emails, and timesheets.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency situations and implement emergency policies and procedures.
  • Ability to make assessments and communicate findings effectively.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to hygiene and sanitation techniques.
  • Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and team members.
  • Commitment to regular attendance and maintaining confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to assist with physical tasks related to client care and support.

Other Factors:

  • Must be able to attend work regularly and adhere to confidentiality requirements.

Additional Information

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range:$16.24/hr.
