A Day in the Life

A Day in The Life Of:

  • Leads or leverages cross functional teams to evaluate, plan and manage projects for new product development and ongoing lifecycle management of products, processes and therapies.

  • Continuously develops and advocates for creative strategies that improve time to market and reduce risk on development programs.

  • Partners with Core Teams to define and deliver solutions, within agreed upon timelines and cost.

  • Communicates to business leadership about the progress and health of development activities

  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.

  • Reviews status of projects and budgets; manages schedules and prepares status reports.

  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

  • Ensures requirements gathering, requirements planning, and requirements management meet the demands of the project’s key stakeholders, both external and internal.

  • Communicates with stakeholders, obtains stakeholder engagement to ensure the end products or processes will meet the customer and business needs.

  • Builds highly effective core teams. Provides feedback and team member coaching to ensure effective team dynamics and mutual accountability

  • Accountable for execution of all documentation and phase gate deliverables.

  • Facilitates engagement of the field and our customers, to gain knowledge about product application and customer needs.

  • Prepares, facilitates, and leads successful program phase reviews and updates to senior leadership review teams including the PRC (Project Review Committee) and other business leadership forums

  • Accountable for project performance, risk management, financial management, budgeting, capital planning, financial and head-count forecasting and issue resolution.

  • Engages with cross-functional resource managers to ensure resources are assigned and held accountable for task and goal completion.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Level 8 Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience

  • Minimum 8 years of medical device product development experience

  • Minimum 3 years of Project and/or People management experience

  • Strong business acumen, ability to think and act from an overall “best for the business” perspective.

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness -- ability to communicate to various levels of the business succinctly and accurately.

  • Proven ability to deliver results in a matrixed organization.

  • Influence management skills; ability to build relationships and work cooperatively at all levels in the business

  • Detail oriented with a focus on cost, scope, and schedule.

  • Demonstrated ability to show high integrity and gain the respect of peers and subordinates

  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational skills to effectively develop and execute comprehensive programs and budgets

  • Nice to Have

  • Masters Degree in technical field or MBA

  • Proven track record leading complex product development projects in Medtronic or other large Medtech companies

  • Ideally being located at one of Medtronic’s CAS manufacturing sites, to enable close collaboration Manufacturing Operations

  • Ability to travel regularly to Medtronic’s sites in the US, Canada, Ireland and China

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$187,200.00-$280,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

U.S. Candidates

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns. Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
