Job Description :

To assist the Associate Vice President in management and coordination services in alignment with the mission of UTMB.

Scope: Institution-wide, all campuses, all areas

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists the Associate Vice President, in the leadership of the department, creation and management of all facets of the department budget and may assume full department management responsibility if assigned during the absence of the Associate Vice President, Utility Operations (AVP).

  • Works closely with the Department Heads, Environmental Health and Safety Managers, and Program Directors within the Heath, Academic, and Business Properties, to achieve program priorities and objectives with a continual focus towards customer service.

  • Responsible for managing measurable targets and providing development strategies for staff at all levels in the District Energy Operations Department(s).

  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of department policy in alignment with accrediting agencies.

  • Provides both strategic insight and overall implementation of long-range and short-term planning of departmental needs.

  • Identifies areas for improvement of service through work redesign and training and is responsible for overall implementation.

  • Oversees and manages information and data collection for all engineering-related issues.

  • Visible and available to all customer’s needs and remains proactive throughout UTMB.

  • Develop an environment that attracts qualified employees to the organization and develops staff for greater responsibilities and contributions.

  • Creates an environment that fosters a positive team interaction between all Utilities staff.

  • Serves as a role model for ethics, work discipline, and teamwork within the department.

  • Remains current and involved with Code and Standard development and application, and Emergency Operations Procedures and Standards

Marginal or Periodic Functions:

  • Participates in on-campus committees as assigned.

  • Performs related duties as required and assigned.

  • Works as part of a professional team to respond to emergency operations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of District Energy Operation Systems (Chillers, Boilers, Pumps, Air Handlers Units, Portable Emergency Systems and Turbine-Generator Systems).

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.

  • Problem-solving skills.

  • Strategic operational focus.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field and 7 years of related experience.

  • Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM) or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and three years of related experience in an Academic Healthcare Center.

  • 7 years experience at a Director level in a District Energy Services Support Department.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Salary range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.
