JOB SUMMARY:

* This position is for the Galveston location.* To provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of ultrasound diagnostic equipment for diagnostic and evaluation purposes. This position works under limited supervision to provide advanced technical skills in the performance of non-invasive tests used in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease. Responsibilities include performing a full range of non-invasive vascular tests and related duties in patient care and academic/research environment

MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

  • Contributes to the success of UTMB HealthCare Systems.

  • Operates ultrasound equipment for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, documentation of images

  • Prepares a summary of technical findings for interpretation by vascular surgeon.

  • Provides preliminary technical interpretations to ordering physician(s).

  • Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.

  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to

maximize productivity.

  • Provides assistance to rotating students, interns, and residents

  • Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.

  • Provides assistance to rotating students, interns, and residents.

  • Troubleshoots equipment failures and reports such failures to the appropriate department, and notifies his/her manager

  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.

  • Practices safety measures in ultrasound and Environment of Care.

  • Assists the Technical Manager/Director with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation via ICAVL and JCAHO through standardized protocols.

  • Participates in research projects.

  • Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times

  • Is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of vascular disease and new procedures, as they evolve.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure

  • Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Satisfactory completion of a formal vascular technology training program (1-4 years)must be registry eligible with application for current year OR

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic ultrasound program (2-4 years) with 1 full additional year of full-time clinical experience in a dedicated vascular lab and registryeligible with application for current year OR

  • Approximately two years of college with emphasis on the biological sciences with two years of experience in a dedicated vascular laboratory and registryeligible with application for current year

  • Certified as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

  • Two (2) years of recent Ultrasound Technician experience

  • Current BLS certification obtained through American Heart Association

EQUIPMENT:

  • Ultrasound equipment and other laboratory equipment commonly used in a non-invasive laboratory. Standard office equipment

OTHER:
