Summary About the Position: This position is located with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston Operations Division, Project Operations Branch, Operations Maintenance Section, Galveston, Texas. PCS MAY BE AUTHORIZED Responsibilities Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work. Checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor’s instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow supervisor’s instruction and to meet deadlines. Works along with other employees and sets pace performing non-supervisory work of the same knowledge and level as that done by the group led. Ensures economical use of supplies, safeguarding of tools and equipment, and correct operation/maintenance of same. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead as an ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR LEADER without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to lead. I have experience relaying instructions to co-workers. I have experience in setting the pace for work accomplishments. I am able to keep work progressing to meet a given deadline or schedule without more than normal supervision. I have experience inspecting work of others, as well as, performing preventative maintenance on different types of vehicles such as: power shovels, front end loaders,cranes, bulldozers, road graders, rollers, heavy duty compressors, large generators, tractors, large trucks, hydraulic lifts, vehicles and accessory equipment and attachments.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability To Lead or Supervise Operation of Motor Vehicles Reliability and Dependability as a Engineering Equipment Operator Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) - PHYSICAL EFFORT: Majority of work requires light to moderate physical effort in the handling of equipment and tools, while working from scaffolds, standing, stooping, bending, working overhead,etc. On occasion, may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds. - WORKING CONDITIONS: Depending upon types of duties performed, works either outside under a variety of weather conditions typical of the geographic area or inside normally in heated or semi heated areas. May be subject to electrical shock, working in cramped quarters, normal cuts and bruises associated with handling a variety of hand tools, and/or more serious injury associated with power tools, mobile equipment, etc. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
