Minimum Qualifications:
Jurisprudence degree from an accredited law school and is eligible for admission to the State Bar of Texas. Admission to the State Bar of Texas must occur within 12 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field is highly desired.
One year of experience in contract negotiations, preferably research contracts and collaboration agreements.
Job Description:
Under supervision, provides professional legal guidance, service, and assistance to UTMB departments and administration.
Job-Related Duties:
(Two Positions to be Fill)
Under supervision, provides accurate, knowledgeable, and timely legal advice based on research and analysis of issues involved in the situation.
Under supervision, prioritizes work effectively, completes work within designated time frames, and provides bi-weekly status reports of current projects and activities.
Assures that the Intellectual Property Legal Affairs Division and the Research Services leadership are made aware and kept informed of contract negotiations related to the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP).
Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships within the department, UTMB, The University of Texas System, and the local community.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Under supervision, provides advice and counsel on a variety of operational issues related to research, grant-related contracts, sponsored programs, education, and institutional support.
Drafts and reviews various contractual documents on a wide array of arrangements, including federal research contracts, international and domestic sponsored research agreements, data use/transfer agreements, collaboration agreements, teaming agreements, interagency cooperation contracts, and foundation and alliance contracts.
Negotiates contracts in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, The University of Texas System Regents' Rules and Regulations, and UTMB policies.
Conducts contract training courses to assist the faculty, researchers, postdoctoral students, and contract personnel of the UTMB Community in understanding the basics of UTMB's contract workflow and negotiations of research contracts.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Ability to handle a high-volume workload timely and efficiently without compromising the quality of work product
Problem-solving and analytical skills
Knowledge and experience with laws governing basic science, animal and human subjects and government-regulated research, federal grants, research integrity, and intellectual property
Salary Range:
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Work Schedule:
Fully remote work but must reside within the state of Texas and be available for occasional onsite meetings as requested.
