The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. The agency oversees services for child safety, fostering, adoption, domestic violence, adult protective services, refugees, homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, childcare providers, human trafficking, and public assistance. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

THIS IS AN ANTICIPATED VACANCY.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve asPharmacy Technician. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Fills and pre-packs medication orders including daily refills, assists pharmacists in processing new medication orders, and delivers completed orders to the Clinic Drug Room.

  • Manages inventory keeping medication overstock to a minimum while maintaining adequate inventory that meets daily demands. Places on-line orders. Receives, checks, and stocks medications. Ensures credits are requested and received in a timely manner. Resolves any issues that may arise while ordering and receiving pharmaceuticals. Maintains perpetual inventory of all pharmaceuticals including monthly reconciliation of inventory records and inventory on-hand. Rotates inventory and returns those medications that are overstocked or are no longer used.

  • Maintains adequate stock of drug dispensing packaging, medication labeling, and forms.

  • Organizes and maintains pharmacy logbooks, issue documents, and drug receipts.

  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly fashion.

  • Answers telephone. Operates computer programs, copy machines, handheld drug ordering device, fax machine and calculator. Orders office supplies.

  • Checks and pulls expiring drugs monthly from the Pharmacy, Clinic Drug Room, Emergency Medical Kit, and Clinic Physician's stock.

  • Completes Medication room inspections with pharmacist (replaces existing two pharmacists’ procedure).

  • Performs related duties as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the standards and terminology used in the practice of pharmacy.

  • Ability to inventory supplies.

  • Ability to maintain records.

  • Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare reports.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work responsibilities.

  • Ability to prepare purchase requisitions.

  • Ability to travel up 17 stairs and 50 feet in 30 seconds.

  • Ability to go up and down 17 stairs 12 times in 8 hours.

  • Ability to do repetitive movements with arms, hands, neck, and head; up to 60 movements in 1 hour.

  • Ability to bend, twist, turn, kneel, push and stoop 10 times in one hour, if necessary.

  • Ability to carry up to 15 pounds up 17 stairs in 1 minute.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for 1 hour without a break.

  • Ability to walk 800 feet without stopping in 5 minutes.

  • Ability to remain alert for a period of 1-10 hours including normal breaks.

  • Ability to drive an EZ Go or vehicle up to 3 hours at one time if job essential.

  • Ability to work Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the State of Florida Board of Pharmacy.

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, or completion of a vocational, military or community college pharmacy technician program or licensed practical nursing program and one year of experience as a pharmacy technician, or two years of experience in providing nursing or direct patient care service of a medical nature in a county health department, hospital or institution, clinic, convalescent home or other medical setting.

  • College coursework in pharmacy, nursing or other medical related field can substitute at the rate of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours for the required work experience.
