Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

Responsible to follow hospital and AAMI standards and policies as related to cleaning, decontamination and processing of surgical instrumentation and patient care equipment performed in the Central Sterile Supply Department. Responsible for the day-to-day workflow of the department and the efficiency and quality of the work performed within the department. Participates in Performance Improvement projects. Assumes weekends, on-call, holidays and shift responsibilities as assigned. Maintains education through attendance of all mandatory in services and self-study. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student.

What you will do in this role:

Manages staff to ensure quality of work.

Monitors/evaluates customer satisfaction surveys to identify strengths/weaknesses of Dept.

Keeps the Department Director informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to patients and medical staff.

Assists staff members in establishing goals and objectives for individual growth/development.

Keeps and maintains all records of safety and quality controls within the department.

Evaluates and recommends purchase of instruments, repairs and capital equipment.

Recognizes/develops new services/processes to present to Department Director as appropriate.

Insure the application of Customer Service principles in meeting and exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers to provide satisfaction.

Monitors staff interpersonal transactions to insure application of customer service practices.

Reviews customer service precepts with staff as needed.

Recognizes individuals for practicing outstanding customer service.

Provides necessary materials to enable employees to function at peak performance in providing customer service

Manage fiscal operation of department using the budget as a guideline for revenue and expense analysis.

Assists in development of new processes or services which to supervise staff within perimeters assigned.

Utilizes proper Human Resource guidelines in the selection, training and ongoing performance management of staff. Ensures appropriate facility staffing levels based on customer needs.

Leads by example and inspires employees to highest potential.

Utilizes information gathered at staff meetings to develop action plans for process improvement.

Implements improvement in productivity without decreasing quality of customer service.

Develops programs to broaden employee knowledge and skill level and takes advantage of cross-training opportunities within the department.

Maintains collaborative/cooperative relationships with others in the organization by sharing meaningful information, soliciting feedback and exhibiting respect and support. Integrates department’s services with the hospital’s primary function.

Is proactive in developing a network between and within departments.

Collaborates with internal customers prior to implementing department changes impacting those customers. Gets feedback once change has been implemented.

Is proactive in exchanging feedback/recognition with staff and director.

Actively promotes and supports facility’s philosophy, mission, vision and Code of Ethics and Compliance.

Analyzes and informs director of needs for instrumentation.

Observes staff for efficiency and completeness of processing instrument trays

Supervises, orients and instructs personnel emphasizing importance of quality in sterile processing.

Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards. Takes corrective action when violations occur.

Maintains quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards for area.

Maintains open relationship with all department utilizing sterile processing. Gives feedback to departments as needed.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician
