Overview

Tanaq Support Services (TSS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. TSS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders.

About the Role

We are seeking a Health Communications Specialist III to support a Tribal Implementation Center under the Public Health Data Modernization Program. The center will provide technical assistance and aid Tribes and Tribal organizations in data modernization efforts while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

The Health Communications Specialist III will be part of a multidisciplinary team, carrying out public health communication and marketing strategies, services, and interventions. The role will work with other staff to plan and develop content, and assist in the productions of information material and trainings. This position will also perform outreach activities including building the liaison group, recruiting potential partners, and supporting ongoing engagement with partners.

This is a fully remote position that can be based in Atlanta, GA or anywhere in the U.S. Some travel (15% of time) will be required to various locations in the U.S. to attend meetings, conferences, etc. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Develop timely, high-quality written communication products and activities, providing writing, editing, and related services.

  • Work with Tribes and Tribal organizations while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches and communications that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

  • Develop materials to successfully address cultural and socioeconomic communication challenges.

  • Interpret and translate scientific and technical data into easily understood materials and use plain language for all public communication messages and materials.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and partners/grantees/stakeholders as necessary for the development of materials and messages from scientific, technical and programmatic information.

  • Develop a variety of communication products. This may include print materials, Q&A documents, training toolkits, fact sheets, brochures, reports, web-based videos, training and educational materials, PowerPoint presentations, written and visual content for social media, web-based platforms and blogs, articles, success stories, key messages, and other deliverables.

  • Provide technical assistance to internal and external partners.

  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders and develop dissemination plans to ensure messages meet communication objectives and audience needs and can be rapidly shared.

  • Provide communication strategies and recommendations using communication expertise, including product development and specific strategies for disseminating information, including recommendations on communicating messages through the most appropriate distribution channels.

  • Engage in communication performance measurement/metrics and develop reports when needed.

  • Coordinate clearance of all materials following funding agency guidelines and policies, as needed.

  • Conduct and apply findings from literature searches and environmental scans.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in health communications, public health, journalism, marketing, or directly related field.

  • Experience writing and developing communication products (i.e. brochures, trainings, Q&A documents, key messages, reports, etc.) for communication through various channels.

  • Experience developing and delivering training and technical assistance in a virtual environment, ideally for public health data modernization initiatives

  • Prior experience working with public health agencies, grantees, and/or Tribes and Tribal organization strongly desired

  • Demonstrated cultural competence in providing services to or working with Tribes and Tribal organizations while ensuring culturally-appropriate approaches that respect indigenous values and Tribal data sovereignty.

  • Understanding of adult learning styles and training techniques.

  • Experience monitoring and evaluating communication campaigns and activities to measure overall performance.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and meet multiple tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Strong critical and creative thinker.

  • Ability to translate and disseminate public health, scientific and technical information across a variety of platforms.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, marketing, journalism or other relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

  • Ability to travel (15% of time) to various locations in the U.S. to attend meetings, conferences, etc.
