This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Frisco, TX) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

The Bond Underwriting Associate provides key support to assigned underwriting division. Primary duties include the review and underwriting of renewal and endorsement Construction Surety Bond business as defined within individual underwriting authority. The Underwriting Associate manages the daily flow of incoming requests, sets up submissions for underwriting review, follows for requested information, handles broker questions and agency administration. This position serves as a key resource and point of contact for Brokers/Agents and Underwriters.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enters a contractor’s schedule of work in progress and completed jobs from a CPA and/or internally prepared financial statement.

  • Assist underwriter with entering a contractor’s balance sheet of assets and liabilities, income statement and cash flow statement from a CPA and/or internally prepared financial statement as needed.

  • Accountable for managing a contractor’s in-force liability by utilizing the completed job schedule from the financial statement to close out active bonds by billing additional and/or return premiums if applicable.

  • Prepares DocuSign General Indemnity Agreements and Addendums.

  • Maintains the contractors bid log by updating results.

  • Review, rate, quote Construction/Commercial Surety Bonds within authority and guidelines, including proper file documentation.

  • Calculate premiums, refunds, commissions, adjustments in support of the endorsement process.

  • Examination of correspondence from agents to determine if changes are needed and effects of changes.

  • Compare information from submitted requests to Bond output documents to verify accuracy and completeness during the underwriting process.

  • Determination that accounts are compliant with state regulations by utilizing appropriate rates and Individual Risk Premium Modification plan (IRPM.)

  • Create, modify, update, and process new and existing bonds.

  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to function in the role of a subject matter expert on systems, processes and procedures to both peers, underwriters, and ancillary supporting departments.

  • Document and maintain standardized departmental procedures.

  • Responsible for agency maintenance – power of attorney, bond numbers, company appointments and agency user profile requests.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years business experience, in the Surety Bond industry at either an insurance carrier or agency required.

  • General analytical and math skills; requires basic understanding of Financial Statements and calculation of bond rate/premium.

  • Experience building effective partnerships with Underwriters and agents.

  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Technical proficiency – Microsoft Office software programs.

  • Must be detail-oriented and able to perform in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high quality.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Excellent Written and verbal communication skills.

  • Flexibility to support other time zone working hours based on business needs

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$66,830 - $100,245
