Where the chemistry happens…

Under the direction of the Workforce Development and Talent Strategy Manager, the Learning and Development Specialist role will lead a coordinated approach to training, development, and knowledge management at the Freeport site. The role will drive learning and development best practices and consistency across the site and will provide leadership, coaching and development to local site Learning and Development Coordinators (LDCs). Further, this role assesses the current state of technical training at the site and provides a strategic direction for the future of technical training. In this regard, the role, in collaboration with its manager, provides this guidance to site leadership and ensures alignment across the organization. In supporting the site, this role utilizes analytics and insights as a key component of the strategy and alignment processes. As gatekeeper for the Learning Management System (LMS) for the Freeport site, this role will ensure an aligned and informed approach to site computer-based trainings.

This role will also provide leadership, direction, focus and promote knowledge sharing practices throughout the site’s operational business processes and systems by strengthening links between knowledge sharing, information systems and improving integration among information systems to facilitate the seamless exchange of information across those systems.

Supporting the site’s workforce development strategy, this role maintains relationships with local community colleges to ensure: 1. Active co-op/internship/apprenticeship programs; 2. Alignment of curriculum to industry/BASF needs; and 3. Coordination with new hire training programs.

Finally, through providing strategic guidance to LDCs on site, this role will also further develop large/complex/cross-site training programs including, but not limited to post-hire qualification. In this regard, this role helps to ensure site-wide learning and development needs are met.

As a Sr. Learning and Development Specialist, You Create Chemistry By...

• Leveraging your education and manufacturing experience, you will translate site training needs (technical and professional) from HR Business Partners and Workforce Development and Talent Strategy Manager to site specific plan and coordination with Learning and Development Coordinators.

• Relying on your learning and development experience, you will assess, benchmark and drive continuous improvement to the Learning and Development strategy to ensure the site has a competitive advantage with regard to onboarding, capability and retention.

• Utilizing strong facilitation skills, you will coordinate facilitation of operator onboarding program for the site (delivered by LDCs and external vendors).

• Your keen attention to detail will be critical to build tools/solutions for tracking and reporting analytics and generate insights to monitor effectiveness of all training programs.

• Supporting the Freeport site’s strategic objectives, you will utilize your strong business acumen to advise the organization on forecasting development needs and coordinating training resources to address them.

• Employing your learning and development skills, you will design, manage, and validate complex development programs (or connecting to an outside vendor).

• You will support the development of the talent pipeline by partnering with community colleges/technical schools to advise on curriculum for degree and non-degree training programs.

• Utilizing your demonstrated ability to achieve consensus and collaboration across business units, you will lead the development, implementation and use of knowledge management best practices.

• You will coordinate external training facilitators/vendors for site-wide training when needed.

If you have...

• A minimum of 10 years' experience within a chemical manufacturing plant

• Prior technical training/coordination experience in a complex advanced manufacturing setting

• Ability to lead and influence in a highly matrixed environment, without having direct leadership reporting relationships

• Solid written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate actions and build relationships with all organizational levels

• Strong business acumen with deep understanding of how organizations work with ability to anticipate possible impacts and ramifications of strategies and tactics

• While the position is allowed to work a hybrid schedule, your physical presence, and accessibility on site for a minimum of 3 days every work week is required.

• Experience at an operations/manufacturing site and working in a matrix environment. (preferred)
