Where the chemistry happens…

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, the Community and Government Affairs Manager will manage the external communications activities to maintain and strengthen BASF’s reputation amongst external stakeholders for BASF in Freeport. This will include media relations, advertising and community relations activities in Texas. You will also help to develop and execute strategic communications plans for external stakeholders (community, media, government officials, civic leaders), manage BASF’s digital presence and social media strategy, and help coordinate sponsorships, charitable giving and external events. You will coordinate and collaborate with the site Communication Manager, Corporate Government Affairs and Human Resource teams to ensure that external affairs efforts are aligned and coordinated to speak in “one voice” for BASF. You will work with the Freeport site manager, and in some cases, other BASF Texas Site Managers to deliver communications services.

As a Manager of Community and Government Affairs, You Create Chemistry By...

• Leveraging your bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science or a related discipline and your communications-related and public relations experience (preferably in a corporate environment), you will manage the external communications activities to maintain and strengthen BASF's reputation amongst external stakeholders for the BASF site in Freeport.

• You will take a lead role in developing and executing strategic communications plans for external stakeholders (community, media, government officials, civic leaders).

• Demonstrating your ability to deliver concise writing and message development for an external audience and familiarity with social media, you will develop and manage content for external communications vehicles, including news releases, social media platforms and BASF websites in reference to the Freeport site. You will also use these skills to manage content for external communications tools, including the social media strategy and social media platforms (Facebook, X.com etc).

• Your strong team skills will be essential as you assist in planning and executing BASF’s participation in strategic sponsorship opportunities and special events across the region. You will also serve as a BASF spokesperson for the site emergency management teams.

• Your excellent interpersonal and organizational skills will be a valued asset as you assist with the development of corporate charitable giving strategies, liaise with non-profit organizations and identify and execute press opportunities.

• Your effective verbal and written communication skills will serve you well as you participate in civic and trade associations, community advisory panels, and other external groups that help advance BASF’s presence within the communities where BASF operates. Additionally, you will use these skills to work with the government affairs team to ensure external affairs (government and community relations) efforts are aligned and coordinated to support BASF.

• Paying attention to details, you will assist in managing contracted resources and public relations firms to ensure deliverables to support communications strategies.

If you have...

• Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Business Administration, Journalism, or other related discipline.

• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional Communications or related experience, preferably in the chemical or petrochemical industry.

• Broad knowledge and experience in external communication, including detailed community and government affairs communication plan development and execution.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal and written), interact, and influence with all levels

• Experience at an operations/manufacturing site working in a matrix environment. (preferred)

• Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) (preferred)
