DUTIES: A Chief Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Type A Wastewater Treatment Plant containing facilities for the activated sludge process including all modifications. General direction is received from a Municipal Administrator but wide leeway is allowed for planning work methods and dealing with emergency conditions. Supervision is exercised over the work of operators, trainees and other subordinate personnel. Incumbent may be required to work evenings and/or weekends. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Certification issued under the provisions of the New York State Sanitary Code in a grade determined appropriate by the appointing authority and three (3) years of experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, one (1) year of which shall have involved supervisory responsibilities. Additional Requirement: Possession, at time of application, appointment and during service in this classification, of a valid NYS Motor Vehicle Operator's license appropriate for the type of vehicles which the employee may operate. NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: At the time of certification, preference in appointment may be given to successful candidates who are legal residents of the Town, Village, City or Special District in which the appointment is to be made.
