Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Mechanic Supervisor in Franklin, Pennsylvania

Take the next step in your professional career as a Mechanic Supervisor with the Department of Transportation!  You will provide direction and guidance to licensed and trained automotive and diesel mechanics that perform a variety of analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair duties on a fleet of construction equipment, trucks, automobiles and hand tools. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In your role as supervisor, you will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and providing direct supervision to mechanics who troubleshoot and repair various construction equipment and hand tools. This includes equipment powered by gasoline or diesel engines, with hydraulic, electrical, heating and cooling, manual and automatic transmissions, exhaust and drive train systems. You will also oversee the performance of state vehicle inspections and quality assurance results for assigned equipment.

Additionally, you will assign work to mechanics, complete equipment work orders, review parts and time charges, and promptly report any equipment accidents or damage. Furthermore, you will direct and assist mechanics in identifying complex equipment problems using diagnostic test equipment and procedures, and determine the appropriate repair method. You will also ensure that specialized tools, equipment, and parts are available for special or unusual repairs. Moreover, you will supervise the repair of motorized hand equipment and assist in identifying training needs and securing technical assistance. Lastly, you will report any missing or broken equipment as soon as it is noticed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Work hours are subject to seasonal change.
  • This position may require dual shifts, overtime, and travel.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tank Vehicle (N) Endorsement.
  • This position requires possession of an active Class 7 Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification.
  • This position requires one year of experience or training in the repair or maintenance of diesel engines.
  • This position requires possession of an active CFC-12 Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, a 134A Refrigerant Recycling Certificate, or a Compressed Natural Gas Certificate.
