About the role:

As Sr. Manager, Risk Management, reporting to the Director, Risk Management, you will manage the property, international liability, and executive risk insurance programs, M&A insurance due diligence, and leading the Global Property Protection Team. You will be reassigned duties from time to rebalance workload due to shifting priorities or special projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

Insurance Management

You will execute renewals and new implementations, including making recommendations on program design, renewal strategy, retention levels, breadth of cover, limits, and cost. Negotiation of policy terms entails review and technical knowledge of policy terms, conditions, and endorsements. You will develop underwriting specifications and approve marketing submissions, ensuring that BD’s risk profile and insurance needs are effectively presented to the market. You'll manage, review binders and check policies the following programs, :

  • D&O, fiduciary, and special risk insurance

  • property insurance program, including collecting value information

  • international liability program, including delivering loss and exposure information to the appointed actuary as necessary

Claims Management

  • Establishes and monitors claims management processes relative to insurance programs assigned

  • Promptly reports claims

  • Tracks individual claim progress and ensures prompt resolution of claims.

  • Assist in the resolution of complex and challenging claims and achieve favorable settlements

GPPT

  • You will lead the Global property protection team, which is responsible for ensuring continuous improvement in BD facilities’ protection from fire and other perils including securing business continuity.

  • Leadership includes setting the agenda, the meeting cadence, and driving effectiveness, with the support of the Director

  • Managing and maintaining the relevance of related Maxwell content

  • Manages the service requirements and performance of loss prevention engineers.

M&A: Leads the M&A insurance and risk review work.

Contracts reviews

  • Reviewing contracts for insurance and indemnity provisions, in particular, international and clinical trials related contracts

  • Provide guidance, lead training sessions, and liaise with different functional groups and leaders as needed.

Job Aids/SOPS : you will be responsible for maintaining job aids for the responsibilities assigned.

Risk Management Information : you will be proficient in the operation of Origami and FM MyRisk, and other risk management information systems as may be needed for effective execution of the duties of this role.

Additional duties:

  • You will supervise Insurance Broker activities as required in the scope of the activities.

  • Create and distribute various reports, spreadsheets, and graphics for meetings/presentations

  • Handle routine inquiries relative to risk and insurance programs and practices

  • Ensuring timely processing of invoices for areas of responsibility

  • Assimilate new acquisitions into risk and insurance programs as necessary

About you:

To be successful in this role, you require

  • Experience of developing business continuity plans and programs a plus

  • Must possess strong analytic and problem-solving skills to deal with complex business and technical issues.

  • Strong presentation skills with ability to lead and interact with all levels of management.

  • Strong technical insurance knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of legal principles as they apply to insurance

  • Strong understanding of property loss prevention principles

  • Knowledge of business continuity practices a plus

  • Expertise in insurance and risk issues, including contractual risks such as indemnities and limitations of liability

  • Attention to detail with high standards for quality and accuracy in his/her work product

  • Bias towards continuous improvement

  • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and work independently on multiple competing priorities

  • Ability to work through ambiguity

  • Collaborative working style, ability to foster effective working relationships and build trust in a team environment

  • Partnering style that supports internal relationships (operations, treasury, tax, EHS, etc.)

  • Strong verbal, written, and listening skills

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, finance, engineering, or accounting. Master’s degree desirable.

  • Risk management designation/certification (ARM, CPCU) desirable.

  • 8+ years or more of experience in large commercial lines property insurance, loss prevention, or risk management.
