Senior Manager, Corporate Communications

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Corporate Communications in support of BD’s Quality and Regulatory organizations. In collaboration with the Director, Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications will work closely across these functional areas to design and execute communication strategies that drive associate engagement and awareness while supporting change initiatives. This person will be responsible for enhancing internal communication tools and channels that effectively engage associates.

Directly reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications will lead multiple integrated communications projects and initiatives that will require collaboration across various areas of the business, often with competing priorities, tight timelines, and limited budget.

This person is a thinker and a doer who can create a strategy as well as execute, with strong writing skills across channels and a track record of performance in a matrixed environment that requires cross-functional coordination.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Corporate Communications team, along with Quality (QA), Regulatory (RA) and other functions/business/regional teams, to develop communications strategies and materials for high-impact programs.

  • Provide strategic and practical recommendations to communicate functional goals, priorities and progress in alignment with the overarching BD strategy to engage, inform and inspire action.

  • Support the development of high-impact internal/external communications, including strategy, messaging, talking points, town halls, internal events, and function-level communications.

  • Enhance associate engagement and awareness of key topics by identifying creative approaches to reach both office-based and offline workers. Leverage storytelling to highlight the work of our people and drive global patient, purpose and culture stories to connect the dots for associates in a manner that resonates and elicits pride.

  • Support select crisis and change management activities.

  • Research, write, edit and publish content for a variety of communication mediums, including internal (company intranet, town halls, video scripts, e-mails, presentations, etc.) and external (company blog, social media, etc.) channels.

  • Develop and maintain ongoing management of effective communications vehicles. Define and implement strategies that keep these channels fresh while further activating them in innovative and novel ways.

  • Create and build communications calendar and execution plans, coordinate communications across QA / RA.

  • Track and measure effectiveness of communication efforts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience supporting internal communications programs, employee engagement initiatives and leadership communications, including message development, content management and strategic internal communications approaches.

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholder groups and managing numerous priorities.

  • Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and presentation capabilities in a corporate environment. Strong executive presence and the highest levels of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

  • Team player – responsive, collaborative, roll-up-your sleeves approach – as well as ability to think and work independently and make sound decisions.

  • Excellent customer service orientation, flexible attitude, adaptable to change and able to manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrate creative thinking and a proactive planning and execution of communications initiatives – taking into consideration all corporate channels.

  • Flexible outlook and mindset that is energized by working in a fast-paced dynamic environment with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, take initiative and act independently, and work under tight deadlines.

  • Strong ability to collaborate and capable of building consensus and strong working relationships within a highly matrixed organizational structure.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Writing samples may be requested.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in communications.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with an emphasis on message development with excellent writing skills.

  • Experience planning internal events, such as town halls and large meetings.

  • Must be a strong editor and proofreader with superior attention to detail.

  • Experience in internal and organizational communications.

  • Expertise in AP Style writing highly preferred.

  • Experience within a regulated industry or a publicly traded corporation is a plus.

This position will be based out of Franklin Lakes, NJ and will follow a hybrid working model.
