Job Summary: The person in this position is responsible for providing a safe, developmentally appropriate special education services at the middle school and is highly qualified to provide instruction and coordinate services for children as assigned. This position will work in partnership with parents, students, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators in accordance with Federal and State Regulations. Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will: Implement district learning goals and objectives, in alignment with state frameworks. Provide small-group instruction to remediate academic skills so that students can access grade-level curriculum with greater independence. Write Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students and monitor implementation of IEPs in the general education classroom. Plan and implement engaging lessons and activities that align with students’ IEP goals and objectives to build foundational skills. Collect and analyze reliable and timely data on student performance in order to drive instruction and monitor progress. Weekly consultation and collaboration with general education and special education classroom teachers to support generalization of skills. Communicate effectively with families and administrators regarding student progress. Complete all required special education documents to ensure compliance with DESE regulations. Any other duties deemed appropriate by Director of Student Services General Expectations: Manage oneself by being organized, prepared, and punctual Manage resources, meet deadlines, follow through on commitments Act in ways that directly support the mission and vision of FRCS Learn and grow as a professional Use clear verbal and written communication and active listening skills Develop and maintain rapport and effective relationships with young children and adults contacted in carrying out duties and responsibilities by using courtesy, diplomacy, collaboration, cooperation and professional conduct Contribute to the goals and success of all teams and team members through collaboration, cooperation, and flexibility in team discussions, activities, and decision-making Maintain high ethical standards, legal responsibility, and confidentiality Qualifications- Required: Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree. Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License in Moderate Disabilities Pre K - 8 and hold an SEI endorsement Solid understanding of Massachusetts Special Education Requirements Candidates are subject to background checks including CORI Clearance and Fingerprinting. Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment. Qualifications- Preferred: Education: Hold a Master’s degree Experience working in an urban school district Strong knowledge of differentiated instruction Experience in co-teaching within the inclusion setting Experience conducting academic achievement evaluations and writing IEPs Strong progress monitoring skills This position is a part of the FRCSTA bargaining unit. Salary begins at $50,000 and will commensurate with experience, including professional years of service in a school and educational attainment.
