Academy of Visual and Performing Arts is a 6-12th grade, tuition-free public charter school for students in Fort Worth, Texas. Start Date: August 1, 2024

Type: Full-time position. Work hours are generally 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. Flexibility in the work schedule is expected due to the nature of working in a start-up environment. Schedule will be adjusted to accommodate after-hours assignments, as needed.

Primary Purpose:

Assist in the preparation and serving of the appropriate quantities of food to meet planned menu requirements. Maintain high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, safety practices, and customer service.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist with general kitchen tasks

  • Cook and prepare meals according to the menu

  • Serve food according to meal schedules and procedures

  • Ensure portion control

  • Maintain order and cleanliness of the kitchen

  • Follow Safety guidelines when operating equipment

  • Follow all industry-standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation

  • Ensure counting and claiming processes are followed according to USDA/TDA guidelines

  • If assigned, carry out other specific kitchen roles (e.g. dishwasher, cashier, push meals to other areas of school, etc.)

  • Provide good customer service to maintain good customer relationships

  • Process cash handling accurate and in a timely fashion

Qualifications:

  • Education Requirements: High School diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred; may substitute equivalent work experience for diploma preference.

  • Experience Requirements: Experience in school food service/food service.

  • Special Skills/Certifications: Possess current Food Handler Permit (or the ability to obtain within the first 20 days of hire), Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions. Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures. Capable of operating small and large kitchen equipment and tools.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.

  • Bi-lingual Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and apply understand and to carry out instructions in written or oral English.

  • Technology: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to learn and use software as necessary (POS, clock in and out etc.). Ability to use basic office equipment. Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.

  • Child Nutrition workers are regularly required to stand and walk for the entire shift.

  • Required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist and bend often

  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts

  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat

Other Qualification: Criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

The environment requires proximity to other employees, frequent interruptions, extended periods of time viewing a computer screen and standing, and noise levels from moderate to high. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature.
