AltaGas - Temporary Advisor, Environment, Health & Safety

Reporting to the Team Lead, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Midstream, the Advisor, EHS will be responsible for providing continuity between safety practices at various NEBC assets and the goals of the corporate EH&S requirements. This position will fill a maternity leave and will be for a term of 1 year. The successful applicant will act as a link between management and employees/contractors of various NEBC assets.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work closely with managers, supervisors, and workers to resolve concerns and deliver superior EHS performance

  • Support NEBC operations and projects teams with work and project planning

  • Provide technical EHS support across NEBC specifically the North Pine, Blair Creek, TTT and C41F facilities

  • Boots on the ground EHS oversight for critical work activities, projects, and turnarounds

  • Ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, legislation, and industry best practices

  • Day to day coaching and mentoring of workers in the facility through interactions/observations

  • Conduct in house training on company programs, policies, onboarding and orientations

  • Implementation and improvement of the Midstream Operating Management System at NEBC with specific focus on EHS related Programs and Elements

  • Active and regular communication with Regulatory groups pertaining to EHS

  • Stay apprised of the regulatory changes within the EHS portfolio and assist operations with meeting any changing needs

  • Manage and monitor the effectiveness of the NEBC Emergency Response Program ensuring the program is robust and meets regulatory requirements. Assist with planning and delivery of response drills and exercises as well as fill a role within the site Incident Management Team.

  • Own the Incident Management Process at allocated facilities. Lead and support incident investigations

  • Assist and/or conduct safety meetings, pre-job meetings and facility inspections

  • Be an active member of the Midstream EHS Team / network as well as local committees

  • Assist with EHS documentation including creations, edits, approvals, and updates

  • Work with NEBC staff to complete environmental reporting requirements.

  • Liaison with AltaGas Midstream environmental staff to ensure environmental compliance.

  • Support a continuous improvement mindset looking for opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of EHS management system processes.

  • Travel as required to provide on-site support to various locations

What you must have:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 5+ Years progressive experience in EHS

  • Formal OHS education, CRSP or other professional designation is preferred

  • Oil and Gas or heavy industrial experience

  • Proven understanding of EHS management systems and recognition as a respected and credible subject matter expert

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence people, often without direct authority

  • Strong work ethic and a bias for action, setting challenging goals and taking personal pride in your own performance and that of the group

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices. Specific knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation

  • Experience with TapRooT or other similar root cause analysis process

  • Experience in coordination and/or development of Emergency Response Plans (ERP)

  • Results oriented individual with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines

  • Professional verbal and written skills

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

  • Clean driver’s abstract and valid driver’s license (Class 5)

Where you'll be working:

This role is a hybrid safety professional/practitioner position with approximately 50% office and 50% field duties. Routine travel to our NEBC assets is required.
