Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager - Projects, the Project Manager manages all aspects of engineering projects, and is responsible for the safe execution of projects directed towards business and organizational objectives. This position is the single point of contact for Project stakeholders across all phases of the project, from project idea to financial completion and closure.  This is an exciting opportunity to manage a large variety of projects within a diverse industrial site that has several operating areas.

This is a full time position based out of our Fort Saskatchewan office.

Accountabilities

  • Manage projects from early scope development to closeout delivering project objectives.

  • Execute projects in accordance with policies, standards, practices and procedures to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements, and Sherritt’s health, safety and environmental standards.

  • Demonstrate strong project life-cycle approach by defining project scope and deliverables in each stage of the project.

  • Identify engineering, procurement, construction and other resources appropriate for the scope of the project.

  • Develop execution strategies to deliver efficient and effective execution of projects.

  • Develop AFE for project financial approval.

  • Perform effective project risk management for strong project delivery.

  • Perform project reporting according to project needs and project management standards. 

  • Lead project development ensuring engineering processes are in place and followed in accordance with the site Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) as required by APEGA. 

  • Lead effective project change management. 

  • Perform all appropriate project turnover and closure steps.

  • Conduct post-project evaluations and apply learnings to project development and execution. 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (i.e. Engineering, Science, etc.); professional designation in Engineering or Technology: P.Eng., C.E.T. or similar

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset

  • 8+ years of Project Management and industrial plant experience

  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills

  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

  • Finance/business acumen with strong analytical skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, P6 or other PM software an asset

  • Job planning and turnaround planning an asset
