Description
The role at the Lee County DOT Operations Division entails overseeing the upkeep and management of irrigation systems along the department’s rights of way. The aim is to foster healthy plant development and ensure the systems operate optimally. As a member of the irrigation team, the individual will engage in regular maintenance, diagnose issues, and conduct repairs on diverse irrigation setups across the county’s rights of way. Additionally, the position involves operating Class B CDL vehicles and adhering to IRTH guidelines for identifying mainline locations.
Duties and Responsibilities
This role entails managing irrigation systems within Lee County DOT rights of way, ensuring optimal plant growth and system efficiency.
Responsibilities include adjusting and maintaining irrigation systems, performing major repairs on mainlines and well pumps, troubleshooting electrical issues, and operating various irrigation controllers.
The role involves working in and around traffic on and off roadways and right of way, completing paperwork and daily reports, and assisting with arborist, landscape, and tree trimming tasks.
The incumbent will operate a range of Class B CDL vehicles, including but not limited to bucket trucks, dump trucks, and spreader box trucks, as part of their responsibilities.
Additional duties may be assigned.
The position follows IRTH standards for locating irrigation mainlines.
It is non-exempt and requires a mandatory four-day, ten-hour per day schedule, with eligibility for up to ten hours of holiday pay at the regular rate of pay for each observed holiday.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Requirements
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of experience in irrigation, landscaping, or closely related experience.
This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
Licenses
- Possessing a valid Class B Commercial Learners Permit and an acceptable driving record at the time of offer with the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL with Air Brakes endorsement within six (6) months of hire date.
Supplemental Information
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Prior work in landscape maintenance is advantageous.
Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with the standard practices, methods, and tools utilized in irrigation and landscaping.
Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of the codes, rules, and regulations relevant to the field.
Communication Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, and executing instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Mobility: The ability to stand, walk, bend, crawl, sit, and perform overhead tasks for extended periods.
Weather Resilience: Capacity to work outdoors under various weather conditions.
Strength: Capable of lifting, pulling, or moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, including tools, equipment, and materials necessary for irrigation and landscape maintenance.
Safety: Proficiency in establishing a secure work environment.
Work Schedule: Hours: This role operates on a four-day workweek, Tuesday through Friday, from 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.
