Description

This position performs preventive maintenance and specialized electrical work associated with the installation, programming, and repair of equipment/machinery at the Utilities Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants. Incumbent also assists with new or improved work projects for the plants, including reviewing engineered drawings and specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Requires journeyperson-level knowledge of electrical equipment and installations.

  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment, troubleshoots existing equipment, and determines and corrects problems that occur at the treatment plants and remote sites. Installs and wires new equipment from start to completion,

  • Makes independent decisions in connection with daily operations, and works with problems or unusual situations, policy issues, and items requiring professional engineering decisions.

  • Hooks up new motors from 1 – 500 HP including diagnostic testing and megging.

  • Installs, tests, and programs variable frequency drives, starters, phase monitors, relays, surge protection, breakers, and understands program logic computers.

  • Must have a working knowledge of local and national electrical codes.

  • Must be able to read and interpret assigned types of engineering plans, blueprints, control schematics, line diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

  • Requires knowledge in the operation of test equipment and related hand and power tools.

  • The ability to work varying hours and on-call is required.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and contractors’ employees contacted in the course of work.

  • Ability to lift and carry 60 pounds, bend, kneel, climb stairs, work outdoors and in inclement weather, and stand for long periods of time is required.

Education, Experience, Licensing

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and two years related experience in the industrial electrical trade or a closely related field.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.

Supplemental Information

  • Ability to follow safety procedures, utilize safety equipment, wear electrical PPE and monitor the work environment to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals.

  • Ability to diagnose electrical issues as related to Utilities Plant equipment and lift stations.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and line diagrams from start to finish to help determine problems.

  • Knowledge of Utilities Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant processes and components.

  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to restore processes at the plants 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • The workdays and hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., plus on-call rotation as assigned.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an Emergency as needed. During an Emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
