Lee County Government BOCC Heavy Equipment Operator - Roadway in Fort Myers, Florida
The Lee County Department of Transportation is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Heavy Equipment Operator. The incumbent will play a crucial part in operating a variety of heavy equipment to support road construction, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. This role operates under general supervision with defined procedures while allowing autonomy in task completion. Adherence to DOT regulations and a strong focus on safety and efficiency are essential for success in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position primarily involves:
- Daily operation of the asphalt patch truck and asphalt compactor.
- Daily raking of asphalt.
- Weekly operation of the attenuator truck.
- Occasional driving of a dump truck.
- Use of hand power tools, including cutoff saws and jackhammers, as needed.
- Assisting other crews on an as-needed basis.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
- This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.
*Licenses*
- Possession of a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Class A CDL is preferred.
Supplemental Information
- Must be able to stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods and work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Communication:Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
- Thework days and hoursfor this position are Monday - Thursday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm.
