Description

The primary purpose of this position is to operate a dump truck and other large equipment with Lee County in our Canals Division, maintaining Lee County Canals and ROW. This position is responsible for hauling materials and equipment to and from job sites within Lee County. Work is performed under the general direction of a Crew Supervisor who reports to the Maintenance Supervisor, Canals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a dump truck and participate in the maintenance, cleaning and hauling of ditch materials from Lee County Canals and Right of Ways as needed.

  • May be required to fill in and operate a Gradall, Loader, Skid Steer, Mini Excavator and trailer attached to dump truck.

  • Operate hand and power tools such as chainsaws, pole saws and weed eaters.

  • Perform minor operator related maintenance on related equipment, may be required to perform labor duties such as lay sod, shovel and or raking duties.

  • Work on weirs when needed.

  • Occasionally assist with the Canals herbicide spray crew.

  • Act as a flagging person when needed.

  • Report any deficiencies on ROW and Canals to crew supervisor or maintenance supervisor so proper repairs can be made.

  • Work with a crew or independently.

  • Must be able to fill in, in the absence of the lead operator and document daily activities into Cartegraph System, direct crews and report to the project manager or supervisor.

  • May assist other crews within the department on an as needed basis.

Education, Experience, Licensing

Minimum Requirements

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.

  • This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.

Licenses

  • Possession of a valid Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.

Supplemental Information

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to shoot grades and elevations, or willingness to learn.

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations and ability to set up safe work zones using Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic guidelines.

Work schedule: Tuesday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
