The Bridge Technician II plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and functionality of bridges within the jurisdiction of theLee County Department of Transportation. This position involves hands-on technical work, inspection, maintenance, and repair of bridges to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain drawbridges and stationary bridges.
- Repair, install, and maintain guardrails and handrails.
- Operate pickup and dump trucks, tractors with post driver, auger, box blade, and front-end loader.
- Inspect drawbridge gears, bearings, and mechanical bridge parts to clean, adjust, and lubricate as necessary.
- Install or repair traffic safetyattenuatorsystems.
- Transport a barge using wide load permits and maneuvering around the bridge structures performing repair from the water line.
- Use of hand and power tools.
- Set up safe work zones.
- Welding repairs on bridges, aluminum railing, and for other departments as needed.
- Form and pour concrete, and do flat concrete work.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school/GED and two years of work experience in equipment operations, construction trades, building maintenance, concrete, or welding.
- This is a Safety-Sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49 CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.
Licenses
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Learners Permit and an acceptable driving record at time of offer with the ability to obtain a valid Class B CDL with Air Brakes endorsement within six (6) months of hire date is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Welding and fabricating skills/experience is strongly preferred.
Supplemental Information
- Experience: Preferably in repairing bridges, guardrails, welding, concrete, and fence repair.
- Welding Skills: Proficiency in using wire and stick-type welders, working with aluminum, and steel materials.
- Physical Abilities: Must be able to lift, push, pull, or move an 80-pound object. Also, capable of climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, lifting, and walking in all weather conditions.
- Instructions and Safety: Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, including knowledge of traffic regulations and setting up a safe work zone.
- Flexible Hours: Willingness to work flexible hours, especially during emergencies.
- Work Schedule: The position requires availability from Monday to Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
