U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Supervisory Librarian in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

Summary About the Position: This position is located at the Library at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood. Responsibilities Interact with clientele to establish user needs and/or requirements to devise appropriate search strategies to handle complex subject matter. Provide official library tours for visiting foreign and domestic civilian and military dignitaries. Direct the training of library staff on the use of all library automated systems to ensure full utilization of various in-house and/or commercial databases. Oversee library staff assignments related to the program planning and/or coordination of technical and public services. Stay abreast of changes and/or trends in information resources, library services, and technology to make related recommendations to promote state-of-the-art research capabilities. Draft organizational policy and/or procedures for implementation of guidance from higher level authority providing advantages and disadvantages of different approaches. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT FOR Librarian: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.) OR A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing research and reference services to library patrons; 2) providing technical advice to library staff and users; 3) Integrate digital library holdings with existing collections for bibliographic and full text databases; and 4) analyzing trends in information resources, library services, and technology to promote state-of-the-art research capabilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
