About the Role

Supervisor Maintenance Planning and Administration, George Washington Bridge & Bus Station, under the supervision of the Physical Plant Manager, is responsible and accountable for managing all aspects of measuring and improving the performance of the facility’s maintenance, structural integrity, environmental, hazardous waste management, sanitation, and construction programs.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will assist the Physical Plant Manager in a wide variety of activities that operate a 24/7 schedule.

  • Overall maintenance of the facility.

  • Administration ofdisciplinary hearingsand participation in maintenance grievances.

  • Reviewing and monitoring contracts.

  • Overseeing the facility’s capital and Agency Major Maintenance Program(AMMP) and coordinating infrastructure renewal activities and capital projects with Project Management and Engineering staff.

  • Coordinating the facility’s input in the department’s business plan and preparing and managing the Maintenance Unit’s budget.

  • The selected candidate may serve as Acting Physical Plant Manager in the absence of the Physical Plant Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering, Architecture or closely related field.

  • Experience analyzing and evaluating contract drawings, tenant alternations applications, and blueprints to identify associated impacts on the facility and recommend alternatives.

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments during emergency response situations, with the ability to respond to all facility emergencies.

  • Experience identifying, understanding, and integrating customer service needs into day-to-day decision making.

  • Ability to develop and employ problem-solving approaches that are sensitive to organizational, community and customer concerns in alignment with the agency priorities.

  • Demonstrated superior written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups both inside and outside the agency, such as tenants, contractors, vendors, and government, community officials.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills in labor agreements and/or disciplinary procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively under a variety of conditions, with the ability to maximize resources and operate independently; be reachable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and ability to report to work expeditiously in response to facility emergencies including snow alerts and other severe weather conditions andperform periodic off-hour facility inspections.

  • Experience managing staff with diverse trade skills in a field environment, including experience supervising unionized and/or maintenance staff, with a proven record of employing effective team building.

  • Knowledge of Maximo. Ability to develop maintenance rosters, procedures and work plans, and their development, configuration, and set-up.
