Position Overview:
DG is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role will lead the design, testing, and development of advanced products, including antennas and related hardware. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will provide technical guidance, ensuring that all designs meet performance, quality, and industry standards, while also playing a key role in proposal efforts and customer inquiries, including cost bids and technical proposals.
Responsibilities:
Lead design from customer specifications to final qualification, acting as Lead Engineer for all design activities and new development (Project Engineer). Utilize CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools to create high-precision designs.
Select composite materials and layup techniques to optimize product strength, weight, and aerodynamic properties. Demonstrate proficiency in Radome manufacturing processes, including layups and molds (compression/injection), and familiarity with CNC, rapid prototyping, and sintering.
Collaborate with production and Electrical/Manufacturing Engineering teams to troubleshoot and enhance the manufacturing process, ensuring smooth product transitions from design to production while meeting design-to-unit production cost (DTUPC) targets.
Lead proposal efforts and respond to customer inquiries, including cost bids and technical proposals. Understand budget and schedule constraints, identify risk factors, and utilize Microsoft Project to manage timelines.
Create and review detailed engineering reports, technical documents, and test plans to communicate design intent and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Participate in hands-on assembly of antennas, provide instruction to personnel assigned to the project, and work collaboratively across teams, supporting production and quality efforts.
Lead re-design efforts for existing products, enhance product performance, efficiency, and durability, and conduct reliability predictions when required.
Perform additional tasks assigned by management
Follows all DG safety procedures as per company policies and per the Facility Engineer/Safety Director
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (BSME or BSAE) required.
At least 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, particularly with high-performance or aerospace products.
Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Catia, SolidWorks) and strong knowledge of FEA and CFD tools.
Extensive understanding of composite materials, Radome and other manufacturing processes, and environmental testing.
Experience with geometric tolerance, machine shop practices, and familiarity with military specifications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Preferred Skills:
Excellent problem-solving skills, with a hands-on approach to guiding projects from conception to completion.
Proficiency in risk analysis, project budget and schedule management, and reliability predictions.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams, including production and quality departments.
