U.S. Army Central Safety & Occupational Health Manager in Fort Knox, Kentucky

Summary About the Position: This is a permanent Safety and Occupational Health Specialist position with 1st Theater Sustainment Command located at Ft. Knox, KY. Responsibilities Serves as the principal safety manager and staff advisor for the command on all accident prevention matters and safety management programs and policies. Formulates and supervises the command-wide safety education and accident prevention effort and directs attention of top command to problems and situations of greatest need. Develops information releases concerning the command safety program. Develops and manages implementation of Army Safety Policy as it applies to the command, including AR 385-10 and relates series. Manages initiatives and coordinates activities relating to accident prevention, tactical safety, safety and occupational health, risk management and safety integration into Army training and military operations. Plans, organizes, administers, and conducts safety management evaluations of subordinate units with special attention directed toward identifying shortcomings in risk management integration, safety, and safety education. Exercises delegated authority to oversee the overall planning, direction, and timely execution of the Commands Safety Program, to include overseeing subordinate elements safety programs. Performs the full range of supervisory duties. Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements and programs; (2) Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards; (3) Conducting safety management evaluations to identify shortcomings in safety, risk management, and safety education and training; AND (4) Performing supervisory personnel management and administrative tasks. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower level (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, no substitution of experience is allowed. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accident/Mishap and Hazard Investigation and Reporting Compliance Inspection and Program Management Leadership Risk Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, no substitution of experience is allowed. This position has been identified as telework eligible. The determination of duration, amount, and frequency is at the discretion of management and as duties and mission dictate. Telework is not guaranteed - the eligibility can be revoked at any time due to lack of sufficient equipment for the incumbent to work effectively in a telework environment, change of duties and/or mission that now requires the incumbent's physical presence, an incumbent violating the terms of the Telework Authorized Use Policy (AUP), or a decline or failure in incumbent's work performance.
