Summary About the Position: This is a military technician position with the 81st Readiness Division, Equipment Concentration Site 63 (ECS), located in Fort Knox, KY. Equipment may include bulldozers, graders, tractors, trucks, tracked recovery vehicles, ambulances, generators and forklifts. Remove and replace major systems or components of equipment to include power packs, transmissions, transfers, gear reduction units, injector pumps, air conditioners, fuel pumps and alternators. Make idle speed, current, brake, and transmission linkage adjustments. Perform initial and in-process inspections; perform mechanical diagnostics and troubleshoot to localize defects and determine cause of malfunction; perform mechanical maintenance on defective parts; and perform minor body work Provide technical assistance to unit personnel. Operate motor vehicles to perform the duties of this position. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This is a military technician position with the US Army Reserves. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: troubleshoot, maintain and repair heavy mobile equipment to include performance of preventative maintenance checks and services; repair, replace, install, or make adjustments to mobile equipment components and parts; and conduct various operational tests to perform final inspection.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work frequently requires climbing on top of equipment or crawling under equipment to work on the various components. You will frequently have to bend, reach, stretch and crouch. Work is strenuous, often requiring the lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 40 pounds. You will also push, pull, and turn heavy parts and equipment. You will move heavier items with assistance of other workers. Working Conditions: Work inside and outside where you will be exposed to drafts, dirt, grease and vehicle fumes. You will be exposed to some inclement weather such as rain, snow, cold, and freezing temperatures; and may be required to work in mud and wet or icy areas when outdoors. Subject to burns, scrapes, cuts, bruises, shocks and strains. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest New Army Reserve Military Technicians may be authorized moving expenses to their first official duty station. To be eligible to receive moving expenses, you must be a newly appointed Federal civilian employee or have a minimum of a 3-day break in service from previous Federal civilian employment. Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 1 Year, if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a temporary appointment will be appointed/converted into a temporary appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
