About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Logistics Readiness Center, in Fort Jackson, SC. Responsibilities Ensures the safe receipt, storage, and movement of hazardous materials. Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel-powered forklift trucks to lift loads weighing up to 16,000 lbs. as high as 168 inches. Checks physical characteristics of items against stock catalog nomenclature. Performs temporary warehousing space planning. Participates in inventories by counting types and quantities of items. Inspects all classes of items for obvious damage, defects, excess wear, and similar visible discrepancies. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (MVO/FLO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) tasks. I can perform warehousing operations which include 1) receiving, storing and issuing a wide variety of supplies and equipment; and 2) unloading, inspecting, and tallying stock to assure quantities and types of items agree with shipping documents. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Efforts: Forklift operation requires moderate physical effort in operating hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting the loads being moved. Strain is caused by the vibration of the forklift truck. Standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries material weighing up to 50 pounds, and at times may handle items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside subject to heat, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly light areas. May work on open docks or in storage areas or yards. Work may be dirty, dusty, and/or greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises; falls from ladders; or injury from material handling or forklift equipment. May be required to wear protective clothing such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, etc. Occasionally works outside in all kinds of weather. Education This job does not have an education requirement. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 months by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition. Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 13 months by a current permanent Army employee.
