Summary About the Position: This position conducts air traffic control duties and advisory instructions for Fort Irwin Restricted Areas integrating nonparticipating live fire activities, airborne and close air support operations. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing control and separation of air traffic; administering instructions to aircraft operating within the area of operation; and assisting pilots in planning flights and filing flight plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also be a graduate of a DoD component or FAA approved formal Air Traffic Controller school and possess Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) and/or Control Tower Operator (CTO) certification. The MEA for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) is 36. An employee originally hired into a covered ATC position must be hired by the last day of the month he/she reaches age 36 unless a waiver from Department of Army is approved prior to appointment. Fort Irwin has school Pre-school and Pre-K through middle school. High School is 35 miles from Fort Irwin. Fort Irwin has childcare services for employees who work on the post.
