ManTech is seeking a Lead Systems Administrator to support a pivotal Defense Health Agency (DHA) program within our Health Portfolio. This role serves as a senior member of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Systems Team reporting to the Lead Technology Architect. The SAFe Systems Team provides infrastructure support, systems administration, DevOps tools, manages the Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline, and other shared technical services across multiple agile Release Trains.

The program is based in Fort Detrick, Maryland. This position is on-site three days per week, but expanded telework options are available for exceptional candidates on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate as the team leader for a group of Linux and Cloud systems administrators, focused on operational support of a wide variety of software systems/sub-systems related medical logistics, business intelligence, and system integration.

  • Lead the SAFe Systems Team in Linux and Cloud systems administration, including system monitoring, planned maintenance activities, emergency response, and both traditional and infrastructure as code (IaC) deployment and automation activities.

  • Work with the Lead Technology Architect to analyze the as-is state of Linux and Cloud systems, make recommendations for changes focused on stability, ease of maintenance, and security, and manage the approved backlog of prioritized improvements/changes over time.

  • Participate in all phases of the development life cycle, acting as a mentor and coach for Linux and Cloud systems administrators as well as related positions including software developers, cyber-security, monitoring/observability, and DevOps.

  • Create and maintain plans and backlogs, drive tickets to completion, and create other documentation as needed; and provide leadership in Linux and Cloud administration approaches and tools - including enforcing standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in large scale systems administration, including at least 3 years in a senior role focused on Linux and Cloud systems administration.

  • 4+ years of technical experience supporting infrastructure for complex software development projects, particularly modernization or migration efforts shifting from legacy systems (Powerbuilder, Oracle, or similar) to cloud-based platforms (AWS, Java Microservices, or similar) – including managing a hybrid pipeline for deployment and configuration management as functionality shifts from the as-is and destination platforms related to performance, transition risk, and team velocity.

  • Hands-on (expert level) skills in Linux for cloud-based software applications, including setup and troubleshooting expertise of a variety of Linux distributions, scripting for automated configuration/updating/response (Bash, Python, etc.), configuration management scripting (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), monitoring and logging (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, ELK Stack, or similar), and IaC scripting (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)

  • Experience working with an interconnected mix of software systems including Java Application Servers, Relational Databases, NoSQL Databases, ETL pipelines, Microservice and API-focused architectures, and message-queue sub-systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Logistics Management, Computer Science, or other applicable discipline. A current CASP+ (CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner), CCNP Security (Cisco Certified Network Professional Security), or ISC2 CCSP (Certificated Cloud Security Professional) can be substituted for this degree requirement.

  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, and trade-off analysis skills – particularly cross-team coordination where an architecture change has an impact to multiple sub-systems.

Additionally, at least one of the following is required:

  • Enterprise logistics and supply chain experience, particularly medical logistics exposure related to inventory and cataloging, life-cycle management/tracking, and related industry/regulatory standards – and an understanding of logistics-related challenges as they relate to software system design and improvement.

  • Experience with the AWS GovCloud environment, and managing architecture that spans a mix of on-premise source systems, existing legacy/migrating systems, and cloud-based software.

  • Experience or certification with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) approaches, and advanced DevOps practices.

Clearance Requirement:

Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain public trust suitability. Will be subject to a Tier 3 Investigation for DoD Common Access Card (CAC) eligibility only.
