The department of Innovation Technology, Education and Analytics ( ITEA ) is comprised of four distinct work groups: Infrastructure Technology (IT), Business Solutions, Instructional Design, and Analytics. High-level services provided by ITEA include network administration, programming, application development, system research and development, reporting, visualization, system training and client customer support.
ITEA mission statement: To practice professional application of technology, data and process in order to educate and empower colleagues to safely pursue, confidently perceive and boldly actualize the insights necessary to advance the University.
Innovation Technology, Education and Analytics supports the technical, educational, and analytical framework that surrounds University Advancement’s core systems and processes. This team is responsible for the reporting, application, development, training, data analysis, system integration and end-user support related to the university’s enterprise-level Constituent Relationship Management ( CRM ) system (e.g., alumni, donors, friends, companies, etc.)
Position Summary
The Salesforce Report Writer is a full-time administrative professional position within the ITEA Analytics sub-unit. This position is responsible for the design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, security and documentation of reporting and associated applications that provide timely, accurate and clear outputs to inform data-driven decisions aligned with University Advancement’s strategy and vision. The Salesforce Report Writer collaborates closely with functional teams across the division, as well as leadership, to analyze business needs, determine approach/efficiency, evaluate existing options and build sustainable solutions.
This position works independently with a moderate level of decision-making and self-direction involving report design, development, interpretation and analysis.
This position will help support University Advancement’s commitment to excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion by helping ensure that services and processes are inclusive.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, preferably in an Information Technology or Business related field by employment start date.
One year of experience in data analysis, report and dashboard development and/or data visualization (or related field), with strong preference given to candidates experienced at developing reports and dashboards within the Salesforce platform.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Experience developing user-accessible reports, dashboards and data visualizations utilizing Salesforce Reports, CRM Analytics and/or Tableau
Strong understanding of reporting architecture and relational database design / data models
Experience collecting, analyzing and synthesizing business needs from a wide range of users
Experience working in a higher education or non-profit environment, particularly within Advancement
Experience working with the Salesforce platform and related third party applications such as ascend, Blackthorn and Conga
Functional knowledge of SQL and/or SAQL ; knowledge of R is a plus
Excellent organizational, analytical and independent problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and under time pressure with a wide range of personalities in an ever-changing environment
Excellent customer service and oral / written communication skills
Ability to negotiate specifications and communicate final products with clients

Write ad-hoc queries and reports using various tools as necessary
Examine processes to ensure they are inclusive of all involved parties; consider how processes may lend themselves to bias.

Evaluate new and emerging features and concepts in supported reporting tools (Salesforce Reporting, CRM Analytics, etc.)
Monitor the overall industry landscape and explore / propose new approaches or tools
Work with Salesforce Administrator, Salesforce Developer and/or other ITEA staff to define, test, implement and document new data fields / structures
Participate in Data Governance committee(s) and determine impact of related decisions on reporting outputs & approaches
Help integrate the reporting function into the overall charge and philosophy of the UA Analytics team
Consider usability and access when researching and testing emerging technologies, such as strengths and barriers certain systems may have in providing a quality and equally accessible experience to employees with different needs and what support employees may need in order to utilize a new technology.
