Veterinary Teaching Hospital

At the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ), we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. The Flint Animal Cancer Center ( FACC ) at Colorado State University serves to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pet animals, translating our research and knowledge to also benefit people with cancer. They offer the latest and most advanced diagnostics and treatments in surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Position Summary

Support Hope and Healing: Join Our Team as a Registered Veterinary Technician II!

Are you a compassionate veterinary technician with a passion for making a difference in the lives of both animals and their owners? The Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University is seeking a dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician II to provide critical support on our client helpline and as an oncology float. In this unique role, you’ll be a vital connection between our clients and our care team, offering guidance, comfort, and expert care to pets undergoing cancer treatment. If you’re ready to be a beacon of hope in the fight against animal cancer, we want you on our team!

This position is a hybrid position that will manage our client help line and act as a technician float on the oncology clinic floor. The help line works to support our clients through email and telephone communications. These communications may include triaging and providing advice on client concerns regarding patient clinical signs related to cancer or cancer treatment, guidance on navigating cancer care for their pet, prescription refills, among other medical care related tasks.

This position also provides technical and nursing support to animal cancer patients, clinicians, students and clients. This position collects blood/tissue samples, may sedate/anesthetize patients, prepares for surgical procedures, administers chemotherapeutic agents, records data and communicates with clients. This position also instructs all levels of veterinary students and technician students.

This position is scheduled M-F, no evenings or weekend shifts.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the date of hire; the department will not offer visa sponsorship.

A signing bonus may be available for eligible and successful candidates.

Required Job Qualifications

  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in veterinary/animal health technology AND two years of primary veterinary experience.

  • Registered as a Veterinary Technician (VT) or Provisional Veterinary Technician ( PVT ) through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ).

  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the date of hire; the department will not offer visa sponsorship.

  • NOTE : VETERINARY PRACTICE ACT – Effective January 1, 2024, anyone wanting to use the titles Registered Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician, RVT , or VT will have to be certified through the Colorado Association of Certified Veterinary Technicians ( CACVT ) AND registered through the Department of Regulatory Agencies ( DORA ).   • This position will triage all phone calls and emails received by the Flint Animal Cancer Center’s technician line.

  • This position handles owners’ medical concerns and questions of patients undergoing cancer treatment and appropriately notifies a clinician or instructs owners in next steps.

  • This position works with owners and clinicians to determine needs of patients and helps to coordinate refills of medications.

  • This position works with primary veterinarian offices to obtain lab work and interprets the lab work to determine at home chemotherapy needs or contacts a clinician if needed.

  • This position provides clients with a means to request medication refills.

  • When receiving notification that a client is in need of refills, this position will facilitate that with the appropriate doctor and or faculty member of the team.

Duty/Responsibility

  • This position provides primary and supportive nursing care to animal cancer patients undergoing diagnostic and treatment procedures.

  • This includes, but is not limited to, admission and history taking, physical exams, monitoring, and administration of medications, administration of chemotherapy, wound management, physical therapy, bandaging, and maintenance of medical records, feeding, cleaning and bathing.

  • This position collects blood, urine, fecal, bone marrow and tissue samples for analysis.

  • With the focus being that of patient advocate, this position maintains smooth working relations with all VTH sections and coordinates the various modalities of therapy required to assure efficient, effective and compassionate patient care
