Description of Work Unit

Medical Services

The Medical Clinic at the CSU Health Network provides acute and chronic care to CSU students by appointments and on a walk-in basis for urgent concerns. Primary care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners care for students, with emphasis on preventive care, education, and continuity. The medical staff are supported by a full range of laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychiatry, optometry, and nutrition services on site, behavioral health and integrated care with counseling staff enhances the treatment of students with behavioral health concerns. Minor procedures are performed in the clinic. The Medical Clinic provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff.

The CSU Health Network ( CSUHN ) at Colorado State University provides a full range of cost-effective mental health and primary care medical services on campus, referral for community specialty care, and comprehensive health education and prevention services programming. Position Summary

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Physician Assistant – PRN provides outpatient adult and occasionally adolescent psychiatric evaluations, medication management and brief psychotherapy. This position is responsible for Psychiatric assessments and management, ordering and interpreting tests, and documenting in the electronic health record; Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plans accordingly; Institutes emergency hospitalizations for patients in crisis for their safety and stabilization when needed; Refers patients to community providers when needed; Provides tele psychiatry services through video/phone conferencing.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Physician Assistant – PRN is a Temporary Hourly position, works a schedule of 0-40 hours per week, and works a variable schedule with no guaranteed hours.

Position Minimum Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Possession of a master’s degree or higher as an advanced practice nurse or physician assistant

  • Possession of a current DEA number for authorization of prescriptive privileges, or the ability to obtain one by the start date

  • Possession of Colorado Prescriptive Authority

  • Possession of a current Colorado Medical License, or the ability to obtain one by the start date

Experience

  • Two years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, adult or college setting with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care

Preferred Qualifications

Certification

  • Certified by the ANCC as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; or NCCPA as a Psychiatric Physician Assistant by having completed the certificate of added qualification ( CAQ ) in Psychiatry

Experience

  • Three years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, adult or college setting with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care

  • Experience or willingness to work in an integrated health care setting

  • Experience working with an electronic health record system

  • Experience working with a young adult/college aged population

  • Experience working with ADHD , depression, anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder

  • Comfort working with patients with moderately complex mental health needs

Knowledge, Skill, Ability, Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge, experience and willingness to work with diverse populations and historically marginalized populations

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary health care team

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with policies of the CSU Health Network, Colorado State University, state, federal and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to advance the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion

  • Interest in the wellness of students and their family members and respect for the role of patients in the decision making process

  • Ability to work in a remote location from the Health Network to provide independently computer based tele psychiatry services if needed

  • Experience or interest working with patients suffering from Eating Disorders

  • Experience with, or knowledge and interest, in treating substance use disorder

  • Application of evidence based prescribing approach

  • Ability to analyze policies, programs, and initiatives to make recommendations for quality improvement

  • A personal or professional commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through active planning and purposeful effort
