Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Human Resources team partners with seven academic and administrative college departments to oversee and lead the college’s Human Resources strategic and operational functions. The team is responsible for developing, administering, and supporting policies, procedures and programs that will build and sustain an inclusive, collaborative, transparent, accountable and high performance workforce; effectively elevating the college’s mission of improving the health of animals, people and the planet.

Position Summary

The CVMBS Human Resources Partner ( HRP ) as a member of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences ( CVMBS ) Human Resources team, advises on and provides expertise for the full spectrum of HR strategic initiatives, operations and professional services across the college, specializing specifically in employee relations and performance management for all employee types. They will mentor and educate CVMBS department HR Coordinators/Generalists in both academic and service departments, serving over 2000 employees (faculty, staff, and multiple employee types/groups). They will partner with other CVMBS HR team members as well as with university centralized offices such as human resources, office of equal opportunity, talent development, inclusive excellence, ombuds, provost’s office, etc.

The CVMBS HRP is accountable for administering and supporting policies, procedures and programs that will develop and sustain an inclusive, collaborative and high-performance workforce. This position will also provide expertise/guidance related to HR data management systems at CSU and will collaborate with other team members to provide back-up HR services and training across the college as needed.

The HRP will advise and partner with Directors, Department Heads, Business Officers and Supervisors to ensure alignment and understanding of the needs of the departments/units and the HR services required to meet those needs. The HRP will provide HR expertise and demonstrate both strategic and operational acumen to effectively meet employee needs in CVMBS . The position reports to the CVMBS Director of Human Resources.

This position is located in Fort Collins, CO. Relocation expense reimbursement and signing bonus may be offered to the eligible finalist candidate.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field

  • Minimum of five years broad generalist experience with specific experience/expertise in employee relations and performance management. (Relevant professional HR Certification may substitute for 2 of the 5 years).

  • Proficient in the use of multiple HR technologies (i.e. HCM , TMS , LMS , HRIS , etc)

  • Proficient with data analysis, interpretation and applied metrics to strategic initiatives.

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in HR-related field such as Organization Development, Public Administration, etc.

  • Experience in a medium to large size organization with a diverse employee base/groups.

  • HR experience at an Institution of Higher Education

  • Experience developing and delivering professional development opportunities

  • Experience implementing principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice

  • SPHR or SHRM - SCP certification.

  • Provides HR expertise, advisement and consultation to all faculty/staff regarding the full spectrum of employee relations issues that may arise in both academic and operational departments/units (2000 employees).

  • Coordinates and engages with employee relations functions i.e. mediation, EAP education/referrals, supervisor/manager advice and guidance, policy/procedure guidance, etc.

  • Facilitates professional relationships conducive to an accountable, inclusive and transparent environment.

  • Facilitates partnerships with other departments such as HR, OEO , Training/Development, Finance, etc.

  • Counsels on staffing strategies and provides supervisor mentoring in staffing, recruiting, hiring, succession planning, orientation and onboarding efforts.

  • Leads and facilitates campus partnerships, cross-training, mentoring and inclusion strategies.

  • Partners on the development, implementation, and evaluation of orientation and onboarding tools for the college, ensuring ongoing relevancy and effectiveness.

  • Facilitates, guides, and supports employee engagement efforts.

  • Partners with department leadership and HR liaisons to communicate HR policies and procedures.

  • Provides efficient and effective communication of HR processes, events, projects, changes, etc.

  • Partners with CVMBS HR Case Manager to coordinate FMLA , ADA and worker’s compensation claims/cases as needed. Guides and manages employee relations and performance management components of these processes.

  • Partners on and supports college environmental health, safety and wellness activities/initiatives.

  • Provides HR expertise/guidance in administrative and departmental meetings, promoting a proactive, mindful and strategic approach related to employee relations across all departments.

  • Remains knowledgeable and current with legal and social requirements effecting HR and the college.

  • Demonstrates ethical and transparent communication and conduct while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

  • Supports a collaborative team environment.

  • Partners with HR Director for assessment, development and delivery of climate/engagement initiatives.

  • Provides HR expertise, advisement and consultation regarding performance management strategies for all faculty/staff (all employee groups/types) across the college (2000 employees).

  • Oversees performance management system and processes for the college and partners with central CSU to develop comprehensive systems/processes across the university.

  • Consults with management on performance, organizational, and leadership matters. Conducts needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee job performance and overall organization performance.

  • Facilitates partnerships with other departments such as HR, OEO , Training/Development, Finance, etc.

  • Mentors HR liaisons, providing guidance and opportunities for HR competency building and professional development.

  • Partners with internal and external resources to stay informed and influence recommended change.

  • Advises supervisors/managers on the Performance Management System including motivation/retention strategies, professional development opportunities, progressive discipline, etc.

  • Evaluation of team plan for continual improvement of the effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional growth.

  • Partners with the CVMBS HR Director and college leadership as an HR adviser and subject matter expert.

  • Coordinates and delivers Training and Development for faculty/staff as needed/requested.

  • Partners on the facilitation, implementation and evaluation of the college’s rewards/recognition platform and programs.

  • Develops and implements strategies for the creation and sustainability of high-performance work teams.

  • Partners with university to develop, implement and sustain an effective performance evaluation system for all employee types.
