Microsoft Corporation Hardware Engineer II - RTL Design Engineer in Fort Collins, Colorado

We are seeking a motivated Hardware Engineer II - RTL Design Engineer who is passionate about cutting edge hardware acceleration and would like to translate this passion into a commercial reality through a cloud service in Azure reaching thousands of customers and being implemented through millions of servers. Candidates should have design expertise on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to develop digital hardware for Microsoft’s next generation of cloud servers and applications. The candidate will contribute to a team developing IP for FPGAs. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, creative, a critical thinker, and able to analyze and resolve complex issues.

Responsibilities

  • Own microarchitecture and design of complex designs.

  • Review, understand, and provide feedback on hardware architectures.

  • Document specifications and lead reviews of documentation, design, and code.

  • Run tests, debug failures to root cause, and provide fixes.

  • Collaborate with multiple hardware, firmware and software teams inside Microsoft.

  • Handle a DevOps role with occasional on-call responsibilities for resolving customer issues in production.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in one or more industry standard interfaces such as AMBA AXI, PCIe, and DDR/LPDDR is preferred

  • FPGA development environment tools experience, including design, implementation and debug

  • FPGA high-level synthesis design and compilation using HLS tools with C, C++ and OpenCL preferred

  • Communication skills, self-starter and ability to facilitate cross group collaboration across Microsoft internal groups and external vendors.

Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
