SUMMARY:
Provide anesthesia and related services, in accordance with hospital regulatory, licensing and credentialing policies, and with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Guidelines for Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Code of Ethics. Complies with current standards of anesthesia practice and care and provides anesthesia care that is within the scope of practice, as determined by demonstrated competency, licensure, and clinical privileges delineated by the Military Treatment Facilities (MTF).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for administration of anesthesia and administration of all levels of sedation for pediatric and adult patients. This includes pre-, intra-, and postoperative evaluation, treatment and the support of life functions and vital organs under the stress of anesthetic, surgical, and other procedures. CRNAs provide pain management and consultation. The CRNA may provide consultation, collaborative management, or referral to other health care providers as indicated by the health status of the patient.
Manage patient anesthesia experience, perform preoperative evaluations and preparations, administer monitored anesthesia care, regional and general anesthesia, monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, perform and manage invasive monitoring, and perform post‑operative evaluations as privileged by the credentials committee.
Advise appropriate anesthesiologist of adverse reactions necessitating non-delegated medical decisions; take appropriate actions as directed or required.
Assist with the training of other staff personnel to include in venipuncture and intravenous therapy, respiratory care, and anesthesia.
Indicate responsibility for the contents and accuracy of all prepared reports/forms by affixing his/her own signature to the documents after validation.
Attend and participate in professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities.
Adhere to all Service/MTF/Local policies for delivery of anesthesia services dependent upon assigned duty location (i.e., 10 MDG or EACH).
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate from an accredited baccalaureate degree program in nursing (BSN) acceptable to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General or Army equivalent. Must have a Master’s degree from an accredited program in nurse anesthesia.
Post-Graduate Training: Successfully completed the residency portion of the MSN.
Licensure: Must possess and maintain an active, current, valid, and unrestricted RN license as well being licensed to the advanced practice level IAW the US jurisdiction requirements of their currently held RN license to practice independently within the defined scope of practice for their specialty. Non-personal services contract personnel must be licensed in the jurisdiction in which the MTF is located.
Must complete a course in nurse anesthesia acceptable to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General or Army equivalent.
Hold current certification from an approved national CRNA certifying body (Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists). Must maintain certification and be recertified every 2 years by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Advanced Life Support Certifications: Must possess and maintain current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Red Cross.
Have actively practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner or in training for 24 months within the last 36 months and are able to demonstrate current clinical competency. Current clinical competency is verifiable by clinical activity logs submitted by the previous medical institutions.
Have at least twelve (12) months within the last twenty-four (24) months providing epidural analgesia (labor epidurals).
Have experience in the delivery of and monitoring of all types of anesthesia utilized in the delivery of obstetrical anesthesia (general endotracheal, subarachnoid, MAC, block, and epidural).
Health Status: Must be able to safely execute the responsibilities of their specialty in providing health care. Has no medical or mental condition that prevents or that significantly reduces an individual’s ability to safely execute their approved scope of practice in providing health care. This includes alcohol or drug abuse, or mental health disorder not responsive to treatment.
Professional Behavior/Conduct: Must not have any reported allegations of misconduct to external regulatory agencies where there is reasonable cause (such as an arrest) that could have a serious impact on patient/staff welfare or safety.
Must obtain and maintain the site's required health screening and immunization requirements.
Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
Must obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialling checklist, sent by Katmai’s Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Ability to effectively read, write and speak English in order to communicate with all patients and other healthcare providers.
Possess evidence of continuing nursing education which maintains skills and knowledge in the nursing specialty.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time. This position has the following shifts: Duty hours/shift for this position depend on assigned duty location. Anesthesia Services are required 24/7/365, including Federal Holidays. CRNAs will be required to work in the Operating Rooms and the Labor and Delivery Suite. Surgeries are regularly scheduled Monday - Friday, 0700 - 1500, though after-hours/weekend anesthesia services are occasionally needed.
TRAVEL:
All Market contractors are subject to working at a duty location at any of the MTFs or associated sub clinics within the Colorado Military Health System (CMHS).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as a clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients. Work is highly social with patients and can be stressful with a high emotional element.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, or translating. Periods of walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage. Pay is: $110.00 to $116..93 per hour.
