Army Installation Management Command Firefighter (Basic Life Support / Hazardous Materials Technician) in Fort Bliss, Texas

Click here for more information on SRC for Firefighters (Primary/Rigorous) Responsibilities Respond to fire alarms for all classes of fires, including those involving radioactive and/or hazardous materials, medical emergencies, rescue operations; wild land fires, hazardous material incidents, and aircraft emergencies. Respond to hazardous materials emergencies as a member of the department's hazardous materials team. Use a variety of hand and power tools to work in all phases of firefighting/rescue operations. Respond to accidents and other emergencies involving injuries and illnesses, and follow approved department protocols in providing basic life support and performing emergency procedures that are non-invasive. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience Requirement: One year of specialized experience which includes: Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized fire department or brigade; AND Providing basic life support; OR Responding to Hazardous Materials incidents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06 or above). In addition to meeting the experience requirement above, applicants must also possess the following certifications through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State or National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration date when applicable: Certification Requirements at time of application: Firefighter I; Firefighter II; Hazardous Materials Technician; Airport Firefighter; and Emergency Medical Technician Certification - Basic Certification Requirements within 24 months of occupying the position: Driver Operator - Pumper; Driver Operator - Aerial; and Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical Care Fire Suppression Firefighting Equipment Hazardous Materials Response Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights. This is a Term position, not-to exceed 2 years with provisions to extend up to 8 years. There are no provisions to be made permanent without further competition. TERM Appointment with option for conversion (must be established prior to announcement opening): To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
