Conducts manual and automated waived, moderate, and complex analytical testing. Serves as a lead for training students and new employees, and may have oversight as a key operator of several work areas. May oversee daily lab operation, in the absence of manager/supervisor and may participate in daily work schedule development. Individuals in this role will work in an outpatient clinic setting. CLIA Role: Testing Personnel Moderate complexity testing Testing Personnel High Complexity testing Job Description: Principle Responsibilities Performs waived to highly complex laboratory procedures. Performs manual and automated waived, moderate, and highly complex analytical testing. Evaluates results for accuracy. Recognizes, communicates, and documents results that require action. Follows all federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA. May have oversight as a key operator of several work areas. Performs and documents required & advanced instrument maintenance, and quality control; takes appropriate remedial action. Stocks, rotates and requests supplies on a regular basis. May oversee daily lab operations, as assigned, in absence of manager/supervisor. Accurate and timely collection and processing of specimens. Reviews orders and verifies patient identification. Informs patients on procedures and protocols. Identifies and uses appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture). Collects samples and labels specimens. Evaluates acceptability of specimens. Performs processing of specimens. Customer service and patient order management. Greets patients, performs check-in process, and responds to patients needs. Evaluates patient orders for completeness and follows up as needed. Manages patient orders to ensure adherence to regulatory and billing requirements. Performs scheduling, ordering and releasing patient's orders in the electronic medical record. Administrative duties. May be assigned shift lead duties for oversight of work flow. Serves as a trainer for students and new employees. Participates in departmental or system wide projects or committees as required. Performs various clerical duties. May assist with department scheduling. CLIA Defined Responsibilities: * 493.1425 Standard; Testing personnel responsibilities. Moderate complexity. * 493.1495 Standard; Testing personnel responsibilities. Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Associate's or Vocational degree in medical laboratory science and completion of clinical internship required or Completion of comprehensive military laboratory science program required or Bachelor's degree in related science required 2 to 5 years MLT experience including 1 year of internal experience required CLIA Defined Qualifications: * 493.1423 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications CLIA Defined Qualifications: * 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT), or American Medical Technician (AMT) accepted upon hire Leadership Capabilities See the Big Picture: Know where we are going as an organization.
