Queens Community House Youth Services After-School Program Director in Forest Hills, New York

Status: Full-Time

Compensation: $30.00 - $34.65/ hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Location: Queens, NY

We are seeking a qualified After-school Program Director with a strong commitment to youth development for our Youth Development Centers (YDC) throughout Jamaica, Queens New York. Our Youth Division allows participants to explore interests and passions, develop positive social connections, contribute to their community, become lifelong learners, and gain meaningful experiences.

The After-school Program Director has overall accountability for developing and implementing all after-school systems and procedures, daily program operations, participant retention, and engagement. After-school Program Directors foster a safe and inclusive atmosphere of fun and learning where the concept of teamwork, creativity, youth empowerment, and sportsmanship can flourish.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Implement effective after-school programming according to the Compass/SONYC DYCD program design model, monitor the budget, and ensure grant objectives are met.

  • Work with Multi-site Director to develop and implement systems, processes, procedures, and tools to support site-level operations.

  • Collaborate with Multi-Site Director and Education Specialist to ensure high-quality, comprehensive after-school programming.

  • Collaborate and meet regularly with the school principal and school community partner(s).

  • In collaboration with Youth Services department leadership and Human Resources recruit, hire, and train effective program staff, capable of managing and leading a classroom

  • Conduct performance reviews for program staff.

  • Responsible for maintaining student participation and attendance throughout the year via recruitment and retention activities, including “student voice and choice” strategies.

  • Maintain compliance as it relates to School Age Child Care (SACC), Department of Education (DOE), Department of Health, and Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) requirements, standards, and regulations

  • Occasional travel to off-site meetings, trainings and events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master in Social Work or Education preferred.

  • Experience in Youth Development or related field.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory and management experience developing and implementing youth programs, staff training, and evaluation; ability to work with a diverse staff of varying professional and educational experiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to young people and staff as a positive adult role model.

  • Demonstrated experience in program outreach and recruitment, budgeting, performance based contracting, and compliance with SACC licensing procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; programming and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency with various computer programs (Microsoft Office, Salesforce) and willingness to learn new ones.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion.
