Position Summary

The Risk Management Intern at South Jersey Industries will support the Risk Management Department in providing broad-based risk mitigation strategies to the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Credit, and Market programs as well provide Physical Security Program support . The intern will report to the Manager, Risk and collaborate with other teams within the company as needed. This role is an expectational opportunity for successful career progression in enterprise, credit, and market risk, as well as physical security.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs business intelligence tasks to gain insights that allow businesses to make informed decisions.

  • Perform data analysis on enterprise risk, creating dynamic reporting to draw attention to high and unexpected risks.

  • Performs quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the energy trading counterparty’s credit quality to determine the level of risk to extend credit.

  • Assists in the daily administration of credit risk management.

  • Participating in commodity contract administration.

  • Reviews counterparty trade confirmations.

  • Other projects as assigned.

  • Collaborate with wholesale traders and other internal stakeholders.

  • Gain experience to three significant components of commodity credit risk:

  • magnitude and volume of exposure

  • counterparty financial strength

  • mitigation of credit risk through the use of contractual arrangements and

  • forms of credit assurance

  • Perform Physical Security Program process and standard operating procedures improvements.

Required Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • A self-starting, “can-do” attitude, with intrinsic curiosity and a desire to grow

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.

  • Proficient knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Availability to work a hybrid schedule based out of our Folsom, NJ office, Monday through Friday during daytime business hours

  • Preferred Skills:

  • Experience and/or coursework in, Finance, Management, Business, Economics, Accounting, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Risk Management, or Business/Administration

  • Interest in or knowledge of utilities industry and energy issues

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably in risk management, Finance, Accounting, Business or Physical Security.

  • The ideal candidate would be a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior, however all students are welcome for consideration.

Compensation Range:

$17 - 27

We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
