Position Summary

The Application Administrator III at South Jersey Industries will plan, structure, conduct, and coordinate business application support activities, with a focus on ensuring the safety, security, and reliability of the IT environment. The successful candidate will oversee operations jobs and processes and will troubleshoot for resolution and documentation with proper escalation, as needed. This role is responsible for providing critical support to the IT network, applications, and users in a 24 x 7 environment including maintaining SLAs, system availability, capacity management, and performance KPI’s. This role helps establish implementation standards and creates support documentation procedures. This can consist of installation, patching, current and future state architecture, and troubleshooting complex technical problems with enterprise systems. Additionally, this team member will review current processes and prepare recommendations for system improvements. This position may also be involved in preparing and presenting project proposals to management and user departments. This team member will work collaboratively alongside project management teams to successfully implement projects. This position is an exciting opportunity to serve as the lead on projects to architect, implement or enhance, and test enterprise systems and applications to meet dynamic business needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of one or more enterprise applications and servers, including installing new software releases and system upgrades, evaluating, and installing patches, and conducting application migrations, refreshes, and restores

  • Plan, design, and develop database servers, web servers, and application servers in a multi-instance environment; implement and maintain the architecture necessary for application integration with other applications/systems (both cloud and on-prem)

  • Ensure the performance and reliability of enterprise systems by monitoring these systems for high availability, load balancing, and satisfactory response time; collaborate with other information technology professionals to resolve performance issues

  • Partner with third party support vendors to ensure that installation, implementation, and testing evidence follow established processes and work as intended and to solve major issues; monitor third party tools for application and database performance, provide recommendations for enhancements/changes, and make database table changes/additions to packaged software applications; r esearch and guide the selection of third-party software as needed

  • Create, maintain, and provide required documentation of policies, procedures, audits, user instructions, operating procedures, system documentation, and root cause analysis for any reported issues

  • Coordinate day-to-day configuration, training, support, maintenance, and improvements of applications; perform complex configuration, change management and testing activities to support a service-oriented architecture and integration between all applications

  • Maintain the integrity of security design and engineering for enterprise applications and systems, including the implementation of backup and recovery processes

  • Determine future growth requirements of the applications in areas such as database size, number of end-users and application functionality; collaborate with other IT professionals to address application capacity needs

  • Provide programming/scripting assistance to support system automation; debugs and tunes/optimizes SQL statements

Qualifications

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of current work experience implementing and maintaining enterprise applications, databases, and servers; or Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience

  • At least 1 year of work experience will include administering complex systems across an enterprise

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

    Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of Windows software applications

  • Experience and knowledge of Utility Enterprise Systems

  • Enterprise Architecture best practices

  • Proficient with version source control and migration best practices

  • Ability to install, customize and navigate applications

  • Strong attention-to-detail

    Preferred Skills:

  • Oracle Customer Care & Billing experience

  • Knowledge of Windows/Linux/Oracle software applications.

  • API Integration troubleshooting
