GAI Consultants Inc Senior Environmental Specialist in Florence, Kentucky

Position Summary:

GAI is searching for a Senior Environmental Specialist to work in our Florence, KY office. This individual will focus on environmental surveys, permitting, and compliance monitoring of energy related projects. Responsibilities will consist primarily of supporting environmental field work and reporting of wetland and stream delineations primarily in, but not limited to, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide general assistance with environmental permitting (local, state and federal) and compliance support for key segments of the energy industry.
  • Assist with field efforts for construction inspection and erosion control monitoring, wetland and stream delineations, stormwater permitting, and endangered species surveys and monitoring.
  • Assist with the preparation of permit applications and associated environmental reporting.
  • Technical responsibility for natural resource, environmental science, GIS, and engineering tasks. Conduct quality control reviews.
  • Provide status and progress reports to project team, and management.
  • Other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Ecology, Engineering, Biology, or Environmental Science required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience commensurate with environmental consulting practices with a background in environmental science, ecology, or construction inspection services with a focus on wetland and stream delineations.
  • Work is expected to be split between 50% field based work and 50% office based work.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime.
  • Strong technical writing ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills a must.
  • Ability to function well within a multi-disciplinary work team.
  • Must be able to travel and work out of the office, including overnight trips. In state travel is a requirement and extended field assignments are likely. There may also be up to 25% out of state travel associated with this position on a project specific basis or to assist other offices.
  • Technical knowledge of natural resources and field assessment methods.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Supervisor and clients.
  • Basic familiarity with the use of GPS tools.
  • A current Driver's License is required.

Education
Bachelors of Biology (required)
Bachelors of Environmental Engineering (preferred)
Bachelors of Environmental and Earth Science (preferred)

Experience
