Helping hand Nursing Service Home Health Aide in FlintGrand Blanc, Michigan

Education:   High School diploma or GED preferred but not required. 

*Experience: * 6 months-1 year of current experience preferred. 

Assignment: The Home Health Aide provides services to patients in their home and/or individual patients in a medical institution. The Home Health Aide may also be scheduled to fill staff relief  opening within medical institutions. 

Accountability: The Home Health Aide is accountable to the Helping Hand Director of Nursing,  Clinical Supervisor, Medical Coordinator and the Charge Nurse if working in a health care  institute. 

*Function: The Home Health Aide assists in providing care by performing simple but important * *unskilled task. Activities may include: *

  1. Supervising and assisting the patient with activities of daily living. 
  2. Encouraging client in self- help. 
  3. Following through on use of equipment. 
  4. Turning and positioning patients. 
  5. Assisting with ambulation. 
  6. Assisting/ encouraging client to follow exercise program. 
  7. Assisting with range of motion exercises. 
  8. Assisting client to bed, chair, commode and use of a Hoyer lift. 
  9. Giving bedpan and urinal.
  10. Assisting with bathing, complete or partial, bath or shower. 
  11. Measuring and recording input and output. 
  12. Giving back and foot rubs. 
  13. Providing personal hygiene inclusive of oral and denture care.
  14. Providing hair care. 
  15. Changing and washing bed linen. 
  16. Preparing meals, following dietary instructions. 
  17. Assisting with eating. 
  18. Maintaining a neat and clean environment, inclusive of housekeeping chores. 
  19. Transporting patient. 
  20. Informing Medical Coordinator of changes in client's condition or family situations. 
  21. Maintaining required records. 
  22. Accompanying patient to social engagements outside the home when permitted. 
  23. Safeguard equipment and supplies. 
  24. Reminding client to take medications in a timely manner as prescribed (Do NOT administer) 
  25. Assist client with blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring. 

The Home Health Aide with additional training and proven performance may assist with certain * *procedures as authorized by the Clinical Supervisor:

 1. Take and record blood pressure.  2. Assist the client with oxygen equipment.  3. Apply hot water bottles.  4. Apply ice bags.  5. Apply binders and Ace bandages. 

The Home Health Aide may NOT: 

  1. Administer medications. 
  2. Irrigate or insert urinary catheters. 
  3. Give nasogastric tube feedings. 
  4. Perform any duties or procedures which require the skill and education of a Licensed Nurse. 
  5. Give premeasured enemas. 
  6. Irrigate Colostomies. 
  7. Insert rectal tubes. 
  8. Cut toe nails.

  1. Assist Helping Hand in determining skills and specialties. 
  2. Presents Helping Hand with evidence of health status as required. 
  3. Follow attendance policy as described in Employee Handbook.
  4. Attends orientation as required. 
  5. Accepts only assignments for which qualified. 
  6. Complies with an institutions policies and procedures when assigned a case within an institute. 
  7. Practices safely and competently within the job description at all times. 
  8. Communicates with Helping Hand about problems and concerns. Helping Hand is prepared to help you whenever possible. 
  9. Complies with state regulatory acts.
