Hurley Medical Center Insurance Service Specialist in Flint, Michigan
Summary: Performs general and advanced insurance services functions at the enterprise organization level. This includes successfully collecting registration related information from patients while at the hospital, as well as after discharge. Utilizes the Epic EMR system to verify and document insurance related information necessary for patient care purposes, discharge planning, and billing purposes. Serves as liaison who advises patients, families, and other departments on common and advanced patient access processes and procedures. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior.
Requirements:
- · Associate's degree in Business Administration or other healthcare related degree, and two (2) years of experience in registration/admitting, billing, collecting, or financial arrangements in a medical (hospital or physician office/clinic) setting
-OR-
· High School diploma and four (4) years of experience in registration/admitting, billing, collecting, or credit or financial counseling in a medical (hospital or physician office/clinic) setting.
-AND-
· Knowledge of Federal Truth and Lending laws.
· Knowledge of community and government assistance programs such as Medicaid and SSI.
· Knowledge of third party payor billing and reimbursement regulations including UB-04 and/or 1500 billing forms and procedures.
· Knowledge of third party payer fraud and abuse regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to work with multiple computer applications for maintenance of accounts.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations, exercising courtesy, professionalism, and tact with patients, patient families, staff, physicians, the general public.
Job Type: Permanent
Pay: $15.21 - $18.93 per hour
