Flint Community Schools Assistant Principal - Middle School in Flint, Michigan

*Job Summary: *

The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal in developing and maintaining an effective educational program consistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy, policies and goals of the School Board; meeting and conferring with students, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records and files; preparing reports.

Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Instructional Leadership

• Assists in the establishment of goals and objectives for the school.

• Provides leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating instructional programs.

• Provides leadership in teaching techniques, innovation and class organization.

• Represent the building administrative team on school district committees as assigned.

• Coordinate student teachers and other university observers within building as assigned.

• Manage specific academic departments as assigned.

 

  1. Staff Personnel

• Assists in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff members.

• Assists in the determination of staff needs.

• Assists in working with individual staff needs.

• Evaluate personnel and assist in the determination of goals to improve performance.

• Prepare formal evaluations as directed by Board policy and administrative regulations.

• Coordinates the revision of the teacher handbook as assigned.

• Coordinate teacher, mentorship in-services.

 

  1. Curriculum Development

• Shall assist in the direction, supervision, and evaluation of the building instructional program.

• Assists in the maintenance and improvement of the quality of the instructional program by being responsible for teacher implementation of the curriculum.

• Assists in providing the leadership necessary to ensure that each teacher is following the Graded Course of Study.

• Oversee new course proposal process as requested

• Coordinate, organize, and publish Course Selection Handbook annually as assigned.

• Manage student course registration through guidance as assigned.

• Coordinate and facilitate the development of the building master schedule: courses, sections, and teacher schedules as assigned.

• Assists with and/or coordinates inspections and visitations by State or National Educational agencies as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

A Master's degree, Specialist or advanced degree in educational leadership, curriculum, or related field is required. Candidates must possess the required certification credits mandated by the Michigan State Board of Education.

Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate preferred.

State of Michigan School Administrator Certification (see note below).

*NOTE: Pursuant to MCL 380.1246 subsection (3), a person employed as a school administrator, after January 4, 2010, will have six months to enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator and three years to meet certification requirements.

 Per the School Administrator Certification Code, a person employed as a school administrator, whose primary responsibility is to administer instructional programs, must hold a valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate or work under a valid School Administrator Permit. Administrators not possessing a School Administrator Certificate at time of hire must obtain an annual School Administrator permit and demonstrate progress toward certification.
